Regarding your edit at Son Goku (Dragon Ball), the reason I had the "Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z" that way is because in the U.S., the Dragon Ball manga is divided between "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" to avoid confusion for American audiences. WhisperToMe 22:50, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Absolutely. I made the same note in a handful of other articles myself. I'mnot sure what the best way to refer to the duality is, since the Japanese version is the more "official" source. I perfer just "Dragon Ball" for the manga because it gives the (correct) impression that the anime are just two components to a larger whole. But whatever. No sense arguing over symantics.

Hello again. I would like some help with the Naruto (manga) articles in changing the "fan-translated" spellings to Shonen Jump spellings - If a name is NEVER seen in circumflexes, I give it with circumflexes once and without after that. If it is given with circumflexes in one point of time, e.g. Gatô, I always put it in circumflexes. WhisperToMe 22:23, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Well, about Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_for_Japan-related_articles, the guys there don't like it that I'm using circumflexes as per Shonen Jump usage. I really want to agree with you. I feel that Shonen Jump is the reference publication for the manga and its spellings should be respected, even if not to excess. After reading through the various arguments, I realize that the alternative viewpoint has some good points and we shouldn't disparage that. One clear problem appears to be the tension level in the discussion-- you failed to diffuse it when you had the chance and I'm afraid that you won't be able to get your point across anyway. I've touched on what I feel are your main points in my discussion, but I'm a little less combative about it. Chin up. Life and wikipedia may not be perfect, but take a breather, let other heads cool a bit, and think about what you're suggesting and why they feel that it's not a good plan. Then, work out a rebuttal with new points and see if you get farther next time. I've found that if you push and push on the same points, it eventually becomes impossible to get others to listen-- and it's hard to regain a level of respect afterwards. Respect is important, because even if you are right, it's hard to make others listen without it. JRP 01:02, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)

What did you mean when you said that you "can't vote on [your] own VfD"? Unless retracted in a subsequent comment (or an anonymous nomination), the nominator is automatically counted as a delete vote. I ask because we've had a lot of false statements lately about who can and can not vote on VfD. Trying to figure out if we need to clarify this point as well... Rossami 01:54, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I meant only that I was adding a line that shouldn't count as a vote because it was my post to begin with. I don't want anyone to think that I was stacking the vote any, I was just making a followup comment. (Not that the vote would need to be stacked.) Whether the nomination itself counts as a vote, I hadn't really considered and it wouldn't matter anyway except for the case of a tie-- and if you have a topic that is that close to the edge... Well, I'm not qualified to answer. JRP

Is her name consistently "Chichi" in the manga? I saw it once as "Chichi" but I'm unsure if it's consistently that or not. If it is, it should be moved there as there are other meanings of "Chi-Chi". WhisperToMe 22:45, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I would be happy to help work on Dragon Ball-related articles, time-permitting. However, please note that I do have commitments to a similarly-themed website [1], and I don't want to spread myself too thin, or seem like I'm shirking my obligations there to work more on Wikipedia. Hello. Thank you for your message. Yes, I noticed blocking that user didn't work. And yes, I'm sure those anonymous accounts are the same person as well. Thing is, it's always hard to deal with problems like this. Someone could try a range block (I don't know how to deal with that very well, so I better not try myself) but I don't think it would be very effective either. Seems like the guidelines are to keep the range block up for a very short period. That doesn't sound good at all. I think the only solution is to revert. On and on and on and on, until it ceases.

About 3RR, every user is a target of that rule. I believe the only exception is when you're dealing with clear vandalism, and since that user refuses to listen to anyone else, I think it's more than about time to start seeing him as a vandal. There are already enough people concerned about this, so I'm not sure someone would accuse any of us of breaking the 3RR. But I'm really not sure about that. What is always a good idea is to leave things the way they are for a while, once in a while. Like it's said somewhere on some policy page here on Wikipedia, "if it's really important, someone else is gonna do it", or something like that. Meaning you don't have to do everything by yourself. I guess sometimes we just have to take a break and come back later to see what went on.

That's what I think. I might also post a message pretty much just like this one on Andromeda's page, since he sounds pretty concerned about this. Hope that's fine for you.

Afghanistan

Hi there. It seems you know a little bit about Afghanistan. I have a question - do you know how the provinces are referred? Are they referred to as, say, Bamiyan, or Bamiyan Province, or Bamiyan province? The American analog would be asking if a state is properly referred to as "Massachusetts" or the "Commonwealth of Massachusetts". I'm asking because all the articles are currently at "X Province", and I'm checking to see if they should be moved to "X". Please let me know on my talk page. Thanks so much for your reply. That was my analysis as well - to have the articles at "X" (i.e. Bamiyan), with proper redirects from Province of Bamiyan and Bamiyan Province, etc. When we need to disambiguate, that will run into a minor problem, but Afghanistan shouldn't have too many conflicts. I figure "Bamiyan (province)" is sufficient, don't you? And if another country has a Bamiyan province, then "Bamiyan (Afghan province)". What matters more than local language usage is local English usage. After all, the official term for the subdivision is province - but "province" is hardly a Pashtun word. So clearly there's already been some engineering for English going on. As for Northwest Territories, that's the name of it. I noted this on VfD, but thought I'd send you a message anyway: don't show deference to the fact that I am an admin (really!). If you feel I've been rude or obnoxious, say so. There is no excuse for any admin behaving badly... if I am having a bad day (whatever), then I should take a wikibreak and come back later. I realise I've been a bit short with people lately (dealing with too many controversial articles does that to you), and will most likely take a short wikibreak soon. My point stands, I just apologise if I was rather abrupt.
