eurobasket ranking

There is a lot of 'action' on the rankings for eurobasket, and I was wondering how you felt about how it is presented. My problem with it is that the World Cup ranks 1 through 24 while editors seem to want eurobasket grouped. It is problematic because the rule book specifies games to be played to sort out positions 9 through 16, but that is not what is happening. The World Cup media guide specifies the ranking, which I sourced on the the eurobasket talk page, but I don't know with enough certainty whether it signifies FIBA rules, or one specific event's rules. The 2013 eurobasket groups eliminated teams, unlike the 2014 world cup, so I guess it might be best to wait and see.18abruce (talk) 13:36, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

I suggest to wait it out until the tournament ends. The FIBA archive usually has the rankings once it's over. FWIW, you can take a look at the 2013 rankings to guess how FIBA would rank this year's tournament. –HTD 16:45, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

SVG map of Philippines provinces

Hi Howard the Duck I see you posted nice maps of the Philippines regions. Any chance you would have an svg version of the map, with provinces coded as class attributes? Here is an example of what I am looking for, but for the World: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/03/BlankMap-World6.svg These type of SVG maps are supper easy to color based on CCS rules. Philippine congressional elections 2016

Hi! I'm currently expanding regional articles for the Philippine House of Representatives elections. You seem very knowledgeable when it comes Philippine election-related topics so I want to ask for your opinion. Do you consider it a gain or a hold if an incumbent won but has a different party affiliation from 2013 elections? For example, an incumbent was Lakas in 2013 and changes to Liberal this year. So is it a gain or a hold for the Liberal? I also have another question. How do you determine the party leaders for House and Senate elections? Janbryan (talk) 17:06, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

In your example, it's a Liberal hold, as the incumbent ran under the Liberals in the election.
For party leaders, I usually look at who is the highest ranking leader in the House. There are also times when a party has an explicit nominee for the Speakership prior to the election, so I'd use that too. I'd also not use retiring or term-limited office-holders. –HTD 17:29, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
I have new questions. This is about the "seats before" entry in the infobox of Philippine House of Representatives elections, 2016. Is the "seats before" based on each party compositions during the election period? Because some incumbents who are reelectionists or running in different positions changed their party affiliations. Does the final House composition of the 16th Congress also based on each party compositions during the election period? Are both majority and minority blocs mostly based on the voting history for speakership election? Thanks for the help! Janbryan (talk) 01:31, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
This should be seats possessed by the party on Election Day. For example, incumbent representative from LP isn't running for Congress, and instead ran for governor. Incumbent governor from LP ran for vice governor for some reason. LP doesn't have a candidate for the House election. Incumbent rep. won the gubernatorial election, NPC won the district election, then the incumbent governor defeated the incumbent vice governor from NUP. Therefore the results are:
  • House election: NPC gain from LP
  • Gubernatorial election: LP hold
  • Vice gubernatorial election: LP gain from NUP
As for final composition, that's for the 17th Congress. The current standings don't change as they are static, its basis is from Election Day. For example, 60 LP congressmen switch to PDP-Laban. PDP-Laban would still have 2 seats both in the infobox and results table (take note: The stats from both of those should be identical!), but if someone's making a party standings table in the 17th Congress article, PDP-Laban will have 62 while LP has 56.
On blocs: The majority bloc denotes everyone who voted for the Speaker. The minority bloc is for voters of the runner-up. In the 16th Congress, there were 3 candidates, so the voters for the 3rd placed candidate are called the "Independent minority bloc", which is not to be confused with the "Independent bloc" who voted for no one or is expelled/removed himself from any of the said blocs. –HTD 18:11, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Template:UAAP

This templates reads University Athletic Association of the Philippines (2016–17), it means that should be placed in the UAAP Season 79 volleyball tournaments. Probably is the (2016–17) that should be removed. But per WP:BIDIRECTIONAL it should not be placed, like in fact is placed, in the other seasons articles. Why? --Osplace 01:08, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Election threshold and seats order vs. popular vote

Hi! Does the 5% threshold for popular vote apply for the infoboxes in Philippine elections? If this is applied, Lakas-CMD who won 4 seats will be removed from the infobox of Philippine House of Representatives elections, 2016, Miriam Defensor Santiago in Philippine presidential election, 2016 and Eddie Villanueva in Philippine presidential election, 2010, etc. I just also want to propose if you're open in the idea for congressional election results tables to be organized based on number of seats won instead of popular vote. I would still keep the independents at the bottom of the table but the parties would be organized based on number of seats won and the parties who didn't win any seats will be organized based on popular vote. AFAIK the 5% rule is for US only. My personal preference is if the vote total is larger than the margin I'll include it in the infobox.
As for results tables the universally acceptef standard is to sort by popular vote. –HTD 00:46, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
BTW 5% threshold is also implemented in Canada (Ex: Manitoba 2016, British Columbia 2009 and PEI 2015). Back to your method, how do you properly calculate the margin? Is it by the no. of votes or the percentages? Let's look at the Philippine presidential election, 2016. For no. of votes, 16,601,997 (Duterte) - 9,978,175 (Roxas) = 6,623,822. This means Binay and Defensor Santiago is out of the infobox. For percentages, 39.01% (Duterte) - 23.45% (Roxas) = 15.56. Both Binay and Defensor Santiago would be out of the infobox as well. Obviously I can't keep track on which articles this 5% rule is in place, but was first applied in US election articles. I'd prefer my method as it isn't arbitrary. Either percentages or vote totals should give the same result. if there are 6 or less candidates though, I could see the argument to be inclusive of everyones as long as consensus says so. –HTD 20:46, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I've noticed that there's a trend of putting candidates who had reached the 3% threshold in infoboxes of past Philippine presidential elections. I will just maintain this to avoid getting into conflicts with other users if I brought this up and deleted Defensor Santiago in 2016 and Villanueva in 2010. But for the House elections, I would apply the 5% threshold. If applied, Lakas will be removed in the infobox of 2016 elections as it only reached 1% of the popular vote. It depends. If there are top 5 parties/candidates, and there were six or more parties/candidates, I'd include the sixth-place party/candidate for balance. It depends on what was agreed to. –HTD 17:51, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

"Seat before" clarification

Hi! I'm just writing this to clarify something because I've been mixed up. "Seats before" are the total seats of a party before the election. Is this right? For example, if an incumbent changes his/her party affiliation from Lakas to Liberal during the filing of candidacies, does the incumbent part of the "seats before" count of Liberal?
