Isle of You draft[edit]

Hello Gryllida,

I think I got it :) Thanks you for guiding me.. it took a bit of time but it looks so much better. Can you check it so I got everything right so it can be published?

[1]

Thank you!! Johanpop (talk) 12:45, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Johanpop :-)
When linking from one Wikipedia article to another one, like you did in your message, wikilinks may be used. In contrast, inline numbered citations are used for linking to external sites in the article space.
I've left an additional question on the draft talk page. --Gryllida (talk) 23:55, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Need For Speed World - finding lost links[edit]

I wasn't sure if I formatted the ping properly, I had used brackets as one person suggested, but another person stated I should have used braces. Anyway, I added a new section to the talk page for the Need For Speed World artcile. You can reply here or delete this section and reply at NFS World talk page as I have this page and that talk page on my watch list. Rcgldr (talk) 02:31, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rcgldr :-)
If your ping is successful, you get a notification. This is called "Successful mention" in your preferences. Square brackets ([[]]) are okay. When replying to someone, the text may be copied from the signature. If signature is not present, it is possible to type the [[User:Foo|Foo]] by hand, where 'Foo' may be pasted from the clipboard.
Thanks for leaving the message and for moving it to this talk page. Perhaps at the Games WikiProject talk, also leave a link to it, so that others have an opportunity to visit and participate in the discussion.
--Gryllida (talk) 05:01, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I also added a section to Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Video_games. The ping didn't work, and I don't know the proper syntax. Rcgldr (talk) 05:46, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Draft article on Abdolali Dastgheib[edit]

Hi Gryllida I had a look at the Iranian group links you suggested but could not find much help. Do you think the above draft needs editing? Are there any specific items? If you do not feel comfortable reviewing it, shall I resubmit it for others to check it? I am not sure how this works, so any guide will be great. THANKS Freshclover (talk) 10:07, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask here: the formatting is good, but I can not review this content. Gryllida (talk) 00:15, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Gryllida. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Why does this text field not remember values which I typed into it previously?

User:Gryllida/js/draft-rater.js

var $input = $('<input/>', {type:'text', autocomplete: 'on', 'name': 'gryllida-wikiproject'});

The 'autocomplete' attribute is 'on'.

(I know I can ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), but I am hoping some of the helpme volunteers are technically savvy and may help. :-) It is a lot easier for me to review responses here in the future.)

--Gryllida (talk) 00:40, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not something I know very much about, but from what I understand autocomplete is on by default. What governs whether the browser does the actions appears to influenced by whether the input field is inside a form or is marked as type submit. It's something to try, since - as I said - it's a subject I know hardly anything about. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:24, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
input type submit is a button and there is no text in it. i don't think i can mark my text input as the submit type. in your proposed situation what change would you suggest? Gryllida (talk) 02:50, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note here, i nullified the tag due to it spamming the -help chat on IRC. I would honestly post your your question at the village pump since it seems the people who stalk helpme don't know how to help. TheMesquitobuzz 18:28, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on TalkRecognition of same-sex unions in Ukraine, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Help with Deletion flag[edit]

Hi Gryllida, I was wondering if you could please help me, the article I am working on was flagged for deletion. Thank you for your help on the page, and your edit suggestions, I am continuing to edit it, it has WP:HASREFS and WP:MANYLINKS and meets the WP:BIO criteria, as well as the WP:GNG, the sources are in fact verifiable in reliable sources. Would you help me and consider voicing your support in keeping the article, ""Keep"" comment to the deletion discussion? I notice the "delete" comments are posted by musicians/DJ who are may be biased. This Russian American composer and pianist, certainly meets the criteria for keeping the article. I would really appreciate your help and support. dhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Charles_Boguinia — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThirdPicardy (talkcontribs) 18:14, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

downsize's talk page[edit]

If you have any further questions regarding places and tagging talk pages either here or my talk page - I do not think it is worth dragging downsize's talk page into a small novel about your uncertainties of how to do things.

As a very important rule of thumb - have a look at other articles of a similar sort - to determine general practice - whether on the main space or the talk page. Thanks. JarrahTree 00:09, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JarrahTree you are absolutely right about Downsize43's talk page, I find it difficult to break the conversation from where it started but this needs to be done indeed.
Looking at Talk:Tasmania, it was tagged by one contributor, assessed importance class etc by another, and specified as subproject Tasmania by one more. I'll check a few other articles to see how it is done. No doubt I should learn to add these things too but if wikiproject members can do this then I can keep adding the tags as appropriate. Student2971 (talk) 20:59, 14 January 2019 (UTC)student2971[reply]

Hello Student2971, Sphilbrick added the speedy deletion template. From my shallow perspective it is a bit concerning that there is only one source for the article, there should be at least three or four different sources to draw such information from - adding more sources and more information from them would be a good idea. For further advice, per my previous recommendation, have you tried asking the experts over at the basketball project at their talk page for advice about expanding the page? Colin Cole, officer of arms[edit]

Thank you for your comments about my editing. Yes perhaps libellous is too strong, although when much of the obituary in the Daily Telegraph from which this page comes was first published many of Sir Colin's colleagues at the College of Arms were furious at its content and legal action was considered. The writer it seemed had a personal grudge. At the time Sir Colin's status did not need protecting as all who knew him saw through the barbed comments. Now it is important that the true facts are recorded for posterity.

All the content removed is either irrelevant, false or out of context. The sections relating to Canada were not applicable to Sir Colin Cole. Those matters were disputed between Sir Antony Wagner and Sir Conrad Swan (a Canadian), predecessor and successor to Sir Colin. The note Her Majesty wrote was because the Knight in question had sadly died before the paperwork could be completed. Her Majesty held Sir Colin in high regard as the second knighthood confirms.

His membership of three Livery companies was incorrectly stated. He was only a Freeman in the sense every Liveryman is a Freeman. Nor did he ever seek to join one of the "great" livery companies as they were not relevant to his interests.

Please check all my edits with the </ref>College of Arms</ref>, the Livery Companies in question and the [1].

Suggestion[edit]

Hi, thank you for assigning projects to drafts. I wanted to suggest that you don't add the "Biography" project. When reviewers accept a draft, they are asked by the script "Is this page a biography"? Clicking "yes" opens up a few more fields. Then the script tags the project with the "Biography" project automatically. It's not a big deal, but this results in the page being tagged "Wikiproject Biography" twice. See for example: Talk:Moises Lino e Silva. --K.e.coffman (talk) 17:41, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, K.e.coffman. In theory, I would be glad to fix it: the name of the project is in the edit summary, which makes it easier to find. However, my intent is to make the draft visible to the wikiproject as soon as it is started; the hypothesis is that exposing a new draft to experts in the topic improves its quality and the quality of feedback to the newcomer who wrote the draft.
I would be glad to file a bug with the script. It is AFCH 0.9.1. Here it is: https://github.com/WPAFC/afch-rewrite/issues/101
As a compromise, I'd be glad to cease my additions of biography (i.e. skip biography articles in my markings) until this bug is fixed. I think this would be a great way to reduce manual work that needs to be done by reviewers. Gryllida (talk) 19:09, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice[edit]

Hi Gryllida, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Thanks for the update for Draft:Beyond Better Foods! Need some help?[edit]

Hello!

I've left a message on DGG's page as well as the general help area, but also thought maybe you might be of help. This article was determined to be kind of like an advertisement, and I'm having trouble determining why (so i can correct it). Do you have any insight onto this?

This seems like a major company with clear reviews and cited sources here.

Any help would be appreciated - I'm relatively new to Wiki so seeking help.

Thanks! Articlegooroo (talk) 03:03, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

1) The phrasing is not sufficiently neutral. Illustration:
  • Bad: Beyond Better Foods is an American consumer packaged goods company and brand[1] whose primary products sold in the United States and are marketed as a lower-calorie, healthier alternatives, to typical desserts like ice cream and snacks.
  • Good: Beyond Better Foods is an American food retailer with alleged focus on healthy food.
Another illustration:
  • Bad: The company's brand was founded around 2012 by former personal trainer Michael Shoretz. Shoretz had begun making ice cream in 2010. After finalizing a formula with the help of Tammy Shaw, a factory owner, product developer for companies such as Nestle, Shoretz initially invested $80,000 of his own funds until he received seed investment from Alex Soros (the son of George Soros) and five other investors.[2]
  • Good: Beyond Better Foods! was founded in 2012 by Michael Shoretz, Alex Soros (the son of George Soros) and five other investors. Michael Shoretz was a graduate of Brandeis University in 2009 with major in Health Policy, who previously worked making ice-cream.[2]
Note that here the fact about his education seems more relevant to me than the fact that he worked as a personal trainer previously.
2) Is English your first language? Gryllida (talk) 05:28, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gryllida,

Appreciate the examples. Ouch! Yes, English is my first language haha - need to brush up!

I see how things are perhaps more concise, however I still have some confusion even in your examples. In your first one, the word "alleged" doesn't make sense. This is clearly a company whose focus is on health - it says it on the website, in numerous articles, and especially in the NYT's piece (this is his motivation) . Whether or not the food is ACTUALLY healthy is another point (stating that would seem like the actual non-neutral statement), but it is a fact that they do indeed focus on creating healthier alternatives. Wouldn't it be more correct to say ..."with a focus on creating food that is allegedly healthy"?

Looking at both examples, I'm confused as why you're removing things. Is this just random on the example side? How are you weighing out the different points as to what to include? Or is it just opinion... I couldn't find anything specific in the wiki guide that states one way or the other.

For instance, while Education is important for sure, isn't the personal trainer aspect AS important here? It's a professional context of him using his health knowledge, and a big reason for why he states he started the company (at least it says so in the article). Or even how much he started it with ($80k)? This seems like a major point as well - I'm thinking like the Benjamin Franklin (auto)biography - isn't it extremely important that he arrived in NYC with only the pennies in his pocket? I also see nothing about Tammy Shaw, who seemed to be a critical element in this business's growth? All of these seem like relevant facts...am I missing something? Or should they be in quotes or something to show that he's saying them?

Thanks again for taking the time for the guidance. This really is helping!

Articlegooroo (talk) 06:47, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What I meant is that the company claims its products are more healthy, but there is no evidence for this and no clear specifics as to what they are healthier in comparison with. This could be worded as "Beyond Better Foods is an American food retailer which claims its food is healthier."
In the second example I removed some parts because the personal trainer part seemed irrelevant. If there is anything else whose removal is not clear I would be happy to clarify why.
If the personal trainer thing is important, it is best to mention it explicitly. Example,
  • Beyond Better Foods! was founded in 2012 by Michael Shoretz, Alex Soros (the son of George Soros) and five other investors. Michael Shoretz was a graduate of Brandeis University in 2009 with major in Health Policy, who previously worked making ice-cream. Michael Shoretz said [to news outlet XYZ] that this work was inspired by his previous work as a personal trainer. [2]
However if you add this, it is best to find more than one reference for it, if this is possible.
I am not a native English speaker. My first language is Russian. I was hoping that the illustrations make a point about how neutrality can be improved. You may wish to process each sentence in this manner so that in the end they only say facts and not opinions.
Thanks, Gryllida (talk) 09:16, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Got it! Will do, thanks! I see some people have also refined it, so it seems better now. Thanks again! Articlegooroo (talk) 17:16, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CaseTalk[edit]

Hi Gryllida, I'm responsible for trying to get a page called CaseTalk up. I've started the draft, mentioned my COI, en before I could react, the page got removed already. The relevance is that there are two tools available that support the modeling method FCO-IM which is used in educational institutes. (1) A freeware version of earlier prototypes which is not actively maintained since the beginning of this century. (2) A tool called CaseTalk which is offered for free for educational purposes. The COI is that I'm the maintainer of this product now since 2001. I've tried to align the text similar to other data modeling tools on the market. So I'm not sure how to proceed in getting this listed without people tagging and removing it as advertorial. I'm trying not to be that. Can you help or give advice? Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marco.wobben (talkcontribs) 19:21, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this. Replied at your talk page. --Gryllida (talk) 20:28, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

There is some trouble with the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro-Polish. The user 2a02:8084:4ee4:5f80:a0dd:e456:7a51:b196 is constantly vandalizing the article, modifying the numbers I found from an official source (polish government). Could it be possible to protect the page or to prevent this user to edit it again?

Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.23.13.242 (talkcontribs)

I too was confused about the correct figures. Please screenshot where in the source these figures are and upload to www.imgur.com, give me the link. --Gryllida (talk) 00:41, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is another conversation about it at reference desk. -- Gryllida (talk) 00:43, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the link: https://migracje.gov.pl/en/statistics/scope/world/type/statuses/view/tables/year/2020. It is hard to make a screenshot since there is a scrolling menu with numbers for each country, but estimates can be obtained summing the appropriate values. In no case the (unsourced) values given by the user 2a02:8084:4ee4:5f80:a0dd:e456:7a51:b196 can be obtained.

Indeed I also dislike scrolling. Can you possibly write the numbers which you have summed? If we can have a few contributors agree about the correct figures, we can call it consensus and request the other contributor to stop. (Something that we can't do when there are only two participants with an idea of what the figures should be; but when there is three or four, and the majority are in good agreement, then consensus is called.) --Gryllida (talk) 00:52, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gryllida. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "sources".

WP:AFC Helper News[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Wiki97828, thank you! Which of these [9][10][11][12] sources is the most important one? --Gryllida (talk, e-mail) 05:14, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I found 10th important the other 3 sources are sporting articles.....is it worth sending to mainspace? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki97828 (talkcontribs) 09:07, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The sources are summarized poorly. We need external analysis, not a mission statement. --Gryllida (talk, e-mail) 03:42, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for writing me about it. Sorry, I've deleted Music from my options, so the mistake won't re-occur, though, I won't be able to specify it in parameter. --Gryllida (talk, e-mail) 23:46, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help with reviewing some edits please?[edit]

Hi Gryllida. I noticed you have an interest in math and software and was hoping you would be willing to review some suggested edits I posted here for a page about data analysis software company. Thanks for considering this request. Arati Mejdal (talk) 19:10, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. Another editor took care of these changes. Arati Mejdal (talk) 19:17, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Trista Piccola article[edit]

Thank you for the tips. I did put in a request for a name change. I realize now it was not the best pick. I am going to check out your tip on the "biography" for support on the article changes. In my review of Wikipedia policies, the article does not comply with NPOV or BLP requirements. Best Agency171 (talk) 16:45, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
