Your "John Hancock"[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 13:54, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(1) I did know. My failure to sign my comment was an oversight: thank you for drawing my attention to it.
(2) What is "John Hancock"? From the context I guess it must be an American colloquial expression, perhaps meaning "signature". Is this so?

No problem, it can't hurt to remind people!
Yes, it is. See the articles John Hancock and Declaration of Independence (The expression comes from Hancock's "prominent" signature upon the Declaration).
If you would like to let me know that you've left me a message on your talk page, use can use the {{talkback}} template (see the template for details on how to use it). =) If you have any other questions, feel free to ask away. Cheers, -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 19:23, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
