Article clean up tag rollback - Barkha Sharma

Hi there, I'm new around here so asking questions to understand and contribute better to Wikipedia. Just noticed that you rolled back an edit I made on the page, Barkha Sharma where I edited the article as per wiki content guidelines and removed the clean up tag from top of the page. Regarding the legion d'honneur, you have probably already checked The leonore base (legion d'honneur data base), file: LH/1602/56, with all the details of Commandant Richier account of the battle with the request of legion d'honneur to the Chef de Bataillon (Major) Lerch.

Several of the books in reference mentioned the clear action of Lerch. THank you for reverting my addition,

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.

Chernobyl and Chernobyl Exclusion Zone

Hello! I'm from Ukraine. Chernobyl is a Russian name. But this is a Ukrainian city and its correct name is ChOrnobyl. The same goes for the name of our capital: Kyiv not Kiev. I understand that you are already accustomed to such names, but for the Ukrainians it is important that the names of their cities are written correctly, and not in the Russian way, especially after Russia started a war against us, annexed the Crimea, supplied the Donbass with serious weapons and its troops, shot down Boing MH17 from nearly 300 people aboard and killed more than 10 thousand Ukrainians. chmod cleanup?

For article chmod on 20:54, April 23, 20190, it seems that you programmatically changed all < tt> and < code> tags to {{ mono

In addition quotes were placed around some keywords like others and groups causing them to display in italics. These change obscure the keywords and make the document more difficult to understand. Can you please explain why?

@DGerman: The tt/code tag changes to mono weren't part of my edit. Those changes were done by @Avelludo: apparently as a cleanup. My edit only cleaned up a pair of quotation marks in one paragraph of prose and fixed one case of unbalanced italic in another wording which may involve one of the keywords; it wasn't intended as a general change to special code/tt markup elements. Per the cleanup guide for HTML5 on Wikipedia, I've changed <tt> elements on some articles to what I deemed were the correct semantic substitutes, which in some cases is the {{mono}} template. For example, Carsten Busch has been president since April 2019. The logo has changed. And HTW Berlin was never part of the Kant-Gymnasium. WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

On a closer look, you added names but did not support these with references according to Wikipedia requirements such as WP:V, WP:RS. Also note the banner at the top of the Notable alumni section. Elizabeth, Countess Gramont

Dear Dl2000. Thank you for having carefully read the article "Elizabeth, Countess de Gramont" and inserted "Citation needed" tags to notify editors of two passages that may be doubted and are not verifiable. I am a newby in Wikipedia and happen to have written the faulty passages. Reacting to your intervention, I have added citations. Please have a look and remove your tag in each case, should you be satisfied that the passage now complies with Wikipedia's verifiability requirement. As I understand it, the person who added the "Citation needed" mark should ideally also remove it after the correction of the defect.

I know the citations I added have their weaknesses. In the first case I added two citations, which both evidence that Owen Roe O'Neill marched south after his victory at the Battle of Benburb in June 1646, but the ideal citation should also have said that he went to Roscrea. I did not find such a citation, but I have citations in place that show that he was at Roscrea in September 1646, so it seems reasonable to say he moved from Benburb to Roscrea, a distance of 125 miles (200 km) in two about three months.

In the second case, my quote is in French. The source is bilingual Latin and French. I thought French would be easier for the reader. Should I have added an English translation or how is that best handled in Wikipedia? The source seems to be an excerpt from a book that I could not identify. I therefore omitted the publisher and publication-place in the reference section. Probably, I should try harder to find an English source.

In addition to the "Citation needed" marks you also added a comma in the quote from Sewall's diary that appears as the third citation for her brother Thomas in the list of siblings in the "Birth and origins" section. At present, this quote reads as follows (the comma is yours): "May 9, [1687]. Hamilton, Capt. of the Kingsfisher dies." The source does not give a year and simply says "May 9. Hamilton, Capt. of the Kingsfisher dies.", with a point but no comma. However, the purpose of this citation is to verify the year in which the captain died. The cited book gives the year on the top of the page, so I allowed myself to add it between square brackets in the quote. Is this permissible? This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion

Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.

Not English

A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.

Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Hello my fellow Canadian, I saw you reverted my edit on the Ecowas page and I just need some explanation on why you feel the message is still relevant or better still, give me ideas on what you think is missing on the page so that I can make adequate changes. I removed the update message that was left on the Ecowas page since 2017 because I didn't see anything that needed to be updated on the page. I actually looked at the page and read through it to see if there was anything that needed to be updated but I couldn't find any. I then went further to the Ecowas website to see if there was any major developments that needs to be included but there wasn't any. New Page Review newsletter November 2019

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 813 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.

Neutrality tag-> Indian campaign of Ahmad shah Durrani

Hey, I raised the pertinent question so that I would be prompted to answer. Firstly there are no citations for any one of the facts, so I raised the 'citation needed' tags through the entirety of the page. Secondly, whoever had edited/wrote the article has a strong bias for Sikhs and against Ahmad shah. Irrespective of how he is seen today, the article lacks objectivity and critical reasoning. For example, if you look at the edit history, a paragraph previously written was ->:

"Further the troops of Adina Beg and Sikhs fought together against Afghans at Hoshiarpur. Later troops of 20,000 horsemen of Timur Shah Durrani was defeated and captured by Sikhs. This resulted in insecurity in mind of Adina Beg, who invited the Marathas, who had taken Delhi to come to Punjab and recapture Lahore. Sikhs and Marathas rout Afghans from Lahore by March 1758. Adina became subedar of Punjab, by promising 75 lacs^{[citation needed]} a year to be paid to Marathas."

I have highlighted the relevant text, and therefore I doubt the integrity of the writer in not being able to differentiate fact from fiction. Who writes such stuff, seriously? I will be making contributions to this article over the weekend and reach out to you if needed. Thank you and cheers.

Blocking

Hi Dl2000,

I noticed that you had spoken to a user known as Neverrainy, who I have seen, has vandalised many Wikipedia pages.

He/she has done the same to an article which I have had to amend twice and I told them that if they continue to do this then they are violating the guidelines. They deleted my message and continued to vandalise the page, claiming that were was no source content when there clearly was. They deleted the entire broadcast section.

As I don't have the power to block a user, I was wondering if you are able to do so? They've caused a lot of trouble and I think that they may need to be blocked again until they start behaving more maturely and understand the rules.

I just had your response on my page and sorry, I don't agree. I looked up all the sources myself and they were all correctly citated. The user did NOT have any justification for removing the entire section. This page has been like that for a long time. There have been numerous pages on tv shows and films where it is exactly the same, as in what tv channels it was broadcast. This user has done a lot of disruptive editing and should be stopped. Thank you for the information. As I am a new user in this space, I am not very familiar with the rules that Wikipedia enforces when editing a page.

Concerning to the conflict of interest and a way to avoid that, if it is okay with you, I'd like you to proofread the document that I prepared so the Wikipedia page Telecommunications in Malaysia can be updated.

Regarding the Wikipedia account, I will change it to a different name so that it won't identify me to the organization I am representing. I will go with the account name SDID1145 so the next time you see the name, you'd know it's me.

Dear D12000, I am trying to write and contribute for a company in Malaysia. Seems the article written keeps getting rolled back. The main source used is Stephanides' biography from Autumn Gleanings. It appears to be very authoritative and well-researched. Other sources are Stephanides' books, as listed in the article; prefaces to his books, written by Gerald and Lawrence Durrell; his daughter's (Alexia's) interviews; articles by Catherine Brown, Alexia's daughter-in-law, etc. What more do you need? Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

68th World Science Fiction Convention

Hi, I'm just wondering why you restored the templates "Use dmy dates" and "Use British English" which I deleted from article 68th World Science Fiction Convention in my recent edit? As far as I can tell, all the dates in the article are in day-month-year format (I changed the last remaining non-conforming occurrence in my edit), and no non-British spellings occur -- apart from the "Organized by" line in the infobox, which is harder to change, as it's produced by a template.
