Replying to your e-mail[edit]

Hello! I hope it's all good.

First of all, I'm so sorry for not replying to your first e-mail: I actually intended to do it during the holidays, but then I completely forgot about it...

Thank you for translating the article and making the edits I suggested you! I should point out, though, that there are still a handful of phrases in need of being supported by citations... Also, the whole text likely needs to be copyedited, but it's not a big issue at all: I and other users can definitely help you fix that!

Thank you very much, as well, for disclosing your family ties: I genuinely find it very lovely that you've committed to pay homage to your father! However, your direct affiliation could be a problem once the article is published, because of Wikipedia's strict rules about conflict of interest, which usually discourage direct editing about yourself or other close relationships, including your family. But I've got good news for you: since you've been very respectful of the general rules, by creating the article as a draft (instead of just publishing it) and trying to add as much reliable and independent sources as possible, I think we should feel pretty comfortable to accept your draft. Still, let me just ask for advice to other reviewers (this afternoon, ideally), so I can confirm this!

Meanwhile, I'd strongly suggest you to disclose your affiliation by following the instructions available here.

I hope I've helped you! : ) Oltrepier (talk) 11:46, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thank you for your reply!
Indeed, this draft / article was meant to pay homage to my father who was/is a local personality in the city of Arad, Romania. I've added to it all the reliable and independent sources there are. Ultimately, I did what you asked me to, so I disclosed my affiliation to the subject of the draft on the draft's talk page. Hopefully, it will be approved after you ask advice to those other reviewers.
Thank you again! CristianMetcas (talk) 12:11, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good, thank you for your kindness and understanding!
I'll let you know more about the responses very soon. Oltrepier (talk) 14:05, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, just one more bit of advice: try to avoid including terms like "legendary", "wonderful" and "stunning" while writing these types of biographies, since you're supposed to keep a neutral point of view... Oltrepier (talk) 14:13, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I promise this is the last note for now...
If you need to cite directly one of the books you've included in the "Bibliography" section to support the statements that are still unreferenced, you can use this template to do it. If you're using the Visual Editor, you can just find the same tool from the "Cite" option of the menu. I hope it helps! Oltrepier (talk) 14:54, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that I should cite any of the books in the bibliography because there's nothing essential in them that there wouldn't already be in the online sources which I provided. The books are in the Romanian language, anyway, and the fact that they exist may be proven with their covers, which are featured by those sources. Maybe the only thing which is mentioned in the books but not in the online sources is the name of my mother and that my father had a son (me) with her. However, I wrote about that briefly in the "personal life" paragraph of the draft article. My father's "personal life" is, anyway, much richer, but that wasn't the point of the article. Thank you! CristianMetcas (talk) 17:28, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok, thank you for clarifying! Oltrepier (talk) 18:00, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Correction: "... because of his achievements in the national championship with the team" should've been "because of his achievements in the national championship with the CLUB team". Thank you, again! CristianMetcas (talk) 18:13, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Oltrepier!
Unfortunately the submission of the draft about my father has been rejected declined by a certain Mach61, a reviewer from Sudan, claiming that "the references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage". I really don't understand how can a reviewer who doesn't speak Romanian decide that "the references do not show significant coverage"! I mean, the article has already been approved on the Romanian Wikipedia. Is Mach61 one of the reviewers you asked for advice? It doesn't actually matter, because he neither left any specific message or guidance to me, like you did hen you declined the submission, nor do I have any other references to add to my draft in order to "improve" it. Could you, please, tell my what else could I do? If I resubmit the draft with no further improvements, I might risk its total deletion.
Thank you! CristianMetcas (talk) 08:14, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, however the term "legendary" wasn't used in reference to my father, but to an older player in the same team who was, indeed, like "legendary" in Romania, who also played for the national football team of Romania - József Pecsovszky. Nevertheless, if the draft will be approved as an article, you can change that reference as you find it appropriate. Even though my father could've been selected to play for the national team because of his achievements in the national championship with the team, he wasn't selected because he was stateless and he needed citizenship. During that era Romania was a communist country and citizenship was granted very hard. CristianMetcas (talk) 17:20, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much a million times! If it is possible, would you, please, add the English article to the Romanian and Spanish translations/versions, so, instead of "Add languages", those versions to appear in the same list - https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christos_Metskas ? About Christos Metskas (again)[edit]

Hello again. I promise you're not bothering me at all: I actually appreciate how much you care! If possible, I would just ask you to send me messages right on my talk page, instead of my e-mail, please: that way, it's a bit easier for me to read them and reply... : )

Also, thank you very much for clarifying some of those dubious statements. Now that you've publicly declared your conflict of interest about the article, though, you should request new edits to me or other users instead of doing it yourself, so we can avoid other issues. Sorry for the inconvenient!

About me, I'm Italian: most specifically, I'm from Lombardy. I've been editing a lot of football-related articles since I registered in 2022, so I guess my "experience" with that, my decent English skills and... a reasonably good translator for the sources in Romanian all do the job! By the way, I'm planning to finish working on the article in the next few days: I hope it helps! Oltrepier (talk) 12:47, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Now, everything becomes clearer to me! "Grazie mille" for your care about the information about my father being accurate and verified and for editing the article. I'll consider what you asked me about not doing any further edits to it.
Your English is much better than mine and, interestingly, though unrelated, it seems that Romanians understand Italian better then vice-versa.
Proof for Christos Metskas obtaining the Romanian citizenship - http://www.legex.ro/Hotararea-255-2004-43218.aspx (search for "Hristos")
"DECISION No 255 of 26 February 2004
on granting Romanian citizenship to certain persons
ACT ISSUED BY: GOVERNMENT OF ROMANIA
ACT PUBLISHED IN: OFFICIAL MONITOR No. 203 of 9 March 2004
...
103. Mețcas Hristos, son of Stavros and Eleftheria ...
..."
As a stateless person and for ca. 3 years after obtaining the Romanian citizenship, or until 2007, his name was written in the Romanian identity documents with Latin letters, phonetically, but in 2007 he asked for its official transliteration from Greek, so, now, it is "Christos Metskas")
H -> CH
Ț -> TS
C -> K
I admit that the numbers he wore on the back of his shirt as a football player aren't mentioned anywhere by the sources, but I know about them from my father (no. 10 and 6). I mentioned them also in the draft I submitted for review. However, I noticed that you removed them, although those would've been an accurate addition to the information available online.
That he was nicknamed "The Greek" is mentioned indirectly by the source at reference 1.
Regarding the number of matches he played with team UTA, that's already in the Romanian article about the club and is also mentioned in some other online sources. CristianMetcas (talk) 13:20, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I'll be waiting until you finish your work on the article (professional editing), then I will read the whole of it again and send to you any recommendations for possible improvements I consider worthy to be made, but it will be your decision to implement them. Thank you! CristianMetcas (talk) 18:12, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've now added that new source: great job in retrieving it!
Thank you as well for redirecting me to Arad's article on ro.wiki, although it would be nice to have an external source that justifies those numbers... Oltrepier (talk) 20:14, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Now, for "Ștefănești" in the "Early life" paragraph, the right link is - Ștefănești, Argeș The one which you added is of another town, in another part of Romania. Both have the same name, but they are distinct towns. So, please, change the link. My father was there, in Ștefănești, Argeș to do "voluntary work in construction" as a refugee child (14 years old). Actually, it wasn't that "voluntary", but they had no choice ... Maybe you rephrase there, because it may sound as if he was working as an adult. CristianMetcas (talk) 21:34, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Article about footballer Christos Metskas (all suggested edits until now)
A. Proposal for rephrasing (after finding source for the year he acquired Greek citizenship):
Christos Metskas (until 2007, Hristos Mețcas, Greek: Χρήστος Μέτσκας; born 17 June 1935) is a former footballer and football coach. Born in Greece, he acquired Greek citizenship in 2000[new_ref], but was de facto stateless before he acquired Romanian citizenship in 2004[current_ref2].
.......
Personal life
In 1974 he married Maria Ricean, a lawyer at the Arad bar, with whom he had a son. In 2000 he obtained Greek citizenship[new_ref], taking possession of his first/provisional Greek passport in 2004, and in the same year (2004) he obtained Romanian citizenship[current_ref2], until then having de facto the status of stateless person.
Where:
new_ref - https://archive.org/details/GreekGovernmentGazette-20000200238/page/n1/mode/2up
current_ref2 = [2] - http://www.legex.ro/Hotararea-255-2004-43218.aspx (already added to the article)
"de facto" - should be written with italics
I'm sure that you'll manage yourself to retain and renumber the rest of the references. [new_ref], for example, will become reference [1]
B. Regarding "Ștefănești" town mentioned in the "Early life" paragraph, the right link is - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C8%98tef%C4%83ne%C8%99ti,_Arge%C8%99
The one current link, added by you, is for another town, in another part of Romania. Both have the same name, but they are distinct towns. Please, change the link. My father was there, in Ștefănești, Argeș, to do "voluntary work in construction" as a refugee child (14 years old). Actually, it wasn't that "voluntary", but he had no choice. I think that you should rephrase there, because now it may sound as if he was working as an adult.
C. About those [citation needed] you added:
The number of matches (217) that he played with team UTA is mentioned at current reference [6]. The number of goals he scored (16) during those matches is mentioned in that book in the Bibliography, at reference [7]. The fact that he was nicknamed "The Greek" is directly and indirectly mentioned by the source at the current reference [1], of national coverage. CristianMetcas (talk) 08:50, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good evening! I should have now made all of the edits you requested.
Thank you for your suggestions, and especially for retrieving that issue of the Greek Government Gazette: your research skills are so good! Oltrepier (talk) 21:37, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm hoping I'll be able to finish my job on the article in the next few days.
If you have any other suggestions, remember you can also make them by following this guide for filing manual requests to me and other editors. I hope it helps! Oltrepier (talk) 21:39, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! Sad news. This morning my father told me at the phone that he received a call informing him that one of his team UTA colleagues just died yesterday night (January 26, 2024). It's Iosif Lereter, who's name is mentioned in the article about my father - Iosif Lereter
Here's the news in Romanian - https://www.capital.ro/a-murit-iosif-lereter.html CristianMetcas (talk) 13:13, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Edit Request:
1. "Metskas went on to become a regular starter for Arad ..." in the "Club career" paragraph should be changed to "Metskas went on to become a regular starter for UTA ...". He was a starter for the club (UTA), not for the city (Arad, Romania) where the club is based.
2. Here's an external source, aside from the biographical books at current references [7] and [8], which mentions the number of matches he played for UTA - https://jurnalul.ro/sport/un-deces-anuntat-batrana-doamna-isi-da-ultima-suflare-144155.html
The number of goals he scored is mentioned in the book at current reference [8].
3. Interesting information that could be added to the article: At the source at the following link, Metskas states that although he was called up three times, he could not play for the Romanian national team, because he did not have Romanian citizenship. - https://www.sportarad.ro/2013/10/23/christos-metskas-grecul-aradului-ii-avertizeaza-pe-tricolori-va-fi-vacarm-la-atena/ CristianMetcas (talk) 10:47, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
