A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Copiri/sandbox/Copiri, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hello, I'm Adakiko. I noticed that in this edit to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 07:14, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

September 2022[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 10:00, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I don't believe that I have actually broken the rules (i.e. I haven't used Wikipedia for promotion, etc.. I agree that this username needs to be changed, and the draft page I created needs to (and already has been) deleted, and I apologize for not being aware enough of the rules. However, my rename request has been rejected for "bad behavior", which I was never able to (even unwittingly) commit thanks to the vigilance of WP's mods. So now I find myself in a catch-22: my honest mistake has led to a perma-ban that means I can't actually follow your instructions and change my username. That doesn't seem to make sense... am I missing something? I'm just trying to do the right thing here and feel like I'm getting kicked in the face for it. To your specific questions: I do not receive any compensation for any of my contributions. Wish I did (who would complain about more money, lol), but I don't and never have. To be honest I don't understand the reason for my block. I don't think I actually did what I'm accused of, in large part because the rules caught me. If unblocked, I'll continue to make contributions like the few I already have -- adding context to WP pages in an impartial way based on knowledge that I have that's not currently listed. Hope that all helps, thanks.

Accept reason:

I will remove the block based on the discussion here. 331dot (talk) 19:13, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You've proposed a new username here, that is the correct process(not making the request yourself). 331dot (talk) 18:46, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What is your connection to the company? Wikipedia is not a place to merely tell about the existence of a company and what it does. A Wikipedia article about a company must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the company, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company. Sources like the company website, staff interviews, press releases, and announcements of routine business activities do not establish notability. 331dot (talk) 18:51, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and yes I understand that better now. I started the company, so I'm definitely not the person to create the page for it. The goal of the (draft, since deleted) page was to just get a start on a broader, impartial overview. We have had a good amount of publicity and external discussion, but I hadn't added that to the page yet. In any event, though, the biggest thing I've learned is that I'm not the person who should be making the page given my connection to the company. So my next steps are outside of WP... doing a better job showcasing the publicity on our own sites in order to make it clear that we do indeed meet WP's "notable company" definition.
As a side note... while I understand the perception that having a username that's equivalent to the company's name implies shared access, it's worth noting that we're not that big of a company. I'm the only one with access. It's a moot point given the last paragraph, but I just wanted to be clear about that since it was one of the points in the original recommendation for changing my username above.
All that said, there's still plenty of other info that I'd happily add to wikipedia, for example what I added earlier this week for Peter Norbeck.
Hope all that helps, thanks! Copiri (talk) 19:01, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've carried out the rename for you. Another admin will review the unblock request Nosebagbear (talk) 14:37, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What edits do you intend to make, since you understand that you should not edit about your company? 331dot (talk) 10:08, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If unblocked, I'll continue to make contributions like the few I already have -- adding context to WP pages in an impartial way based on knowledge that I have that's not currently listed.
As an example, see my edits to the page for Peter Norbeck: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Peter_Norbeck&action=history. Winged-horseman (talk) 14:34, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
