Welcome![edit]

Hello, Brhebert, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Bookstores12, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Porturology (talk) 04:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CSD nomination of Bookstores12[edit]

A tag has been placed on Bookstores12 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Porturology (talk) 04:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your helpme request[edit]

Hi, the specific criteria that a company needs to meet in order to be considered notable can be found at WP:CORP. Essentially, they have to have received extensive coverage in reliable sources, such as reputable newspapers, which I highly doubt they have. If you have any questions about this, feel free to post them on this page, I am watching it.--Terrillja talk 13:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

{{helpme}}|I am trying to learn how to create articles on Wikipedia. So far, both of my articles were deleted.

While I can understand why a commercial organization such as Bookstores 12 might be removed for commercial reasons (please note that I am in no way related to Bookstores 12, I was only a customer once) I can't understand why an article on Doug Larson, a very notable newspaper columnist with extensive quotations on the Internet, might be deleted. (I am not related to or otherwise associated with Doug Larson).

BRHebert

It seems to be due to a lack of references to reliable sources, to establish notability - see WP:FIRST.  Chzz  ►  08:31, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You may find some good info on article development by reading: How to create your first article (using the Article Wizard if you wish), as well as How to write a great article. If you are new to editing, it may also help to read The Editing Tutorial. Hope that helps! :) If you need any more help, on this or any other issue, you can always add the {{helpme}} to your page again, or feel free to Leave me a message! Good luck. The Doug Larson article[edit]

Just to let you know, I removed the copy from your userpage since it was ready to go live. :) You can see the current copy at Doug Larson. As for how I did the references, I just got the information and put it in the proper fields on the citation tool. Then press the "Find details" button at the bottom, and it will make the format layout for you. Really neat, I think. Just copy and paste it right after the line or word you are citing, and the wiki does the rest. Avicennasis @ 09:01, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding references can be easy[edit]

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "Templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) at some point.
  4. Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
  5. Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
  6. Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.
  7. Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

You can read more about this on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv.
Hope this helps, --Shearonink (talk) 04:59, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of things...

  1. I understand, as you said on my talkpage, that you are having difficulties with Wikipedia formatting. Before you add any more references to your draft, please use the instructions above "Adding references can be easy".
  2. You added the same reference three times, the McCord article from American Psychologist. I have found a book version of that article that is much more accessible to most Wikipedia readers than a JSTOR citation. If you wish to add that reference again, just use <ref name = "McCord"/> instead of the malformed <ref>http://psycnet.apa.org/journals/amp/33/3/284/> (for one thing, you are leaving out the closing </ref>, another thing is that your recently-added references do not conform to the commonly-accepted Wikipedia style.
  3. Also, I am going to repeat here on your talk page what I posted on mine (in response to your 'Help or advice' post)...
"In looking at your draft, it does start to seem that most of the article is not about the Study itself but about McCord's follow-up and the possible fallout from her conclusions. You might want to find and use sources that are about the initial Study itself and not about the follow-up, otherwise the title would possibly need to be changed."

Hope this helps, Shearonink (talk) 09:46, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lorquin Entomological Society[edit]

First formed in 1913 and named after French naturalist [1], the Lorquin Natural History Club originally included not only entomologists, (Alonzo Davis, Fordyce Grinnell Jr, Rutherford Moore, Raoul May, Reginald Olds, E. Osterhoudt, and Harold Strawn) , but also herpitologists (Rowland Lyttle, Paul Ruthling), an ornithologist (Luther Little), botanists (George Moxley, Stanley Patton), and astonomer ([2]), a geologist (Harry Waller), to name just a few - all of which were key to founding the Natural History Museum that we know today. This group was renamed in 1917 as the Lorquin Entomological Club, with noted entomologist Dr. John A. Comstock as its first president. The club met in a private home until 1917, then moved to the LA Public Library. In 1919 the club began meeting in the Southwest Museum in Highland Park. In 1927 the group changed its name to the Lorquin Entomological Society and began meeting at the LA County Museum of Natural History. Regular meetings were held at the LACMNH until recent remodeling ousted them. Since then they have been graciously hosted by a local biological supply house, BioQuip, in Rancho Dominguez.
