Jeremy Tankard[edit]

Hi Blythwood, thanks very much for your kind words about the changes I tried to make to this page.

A senior Wiki editor called User:Justlettersandnumbers has just undone all the work claiming: "R a good deal of unreferenced and/or inappropriate content – this was much better before". It's perhaps a bit harsh?

With greatest respect to your having started the page, I do think the work I did on it was at least a little bit of a help. (First of all, we really ought not to be calling typefaces "fonts" so that has to be changed for sure). But (apart from the birthdate you correctly pointed out) most of the new material was indeed referenced properly wasn't it?.

Gotta say I don't really understanding his/her motives for such a brutal chop back to (your) first version. Pretty inexperienced here so would much appreciate your thoughts or advice please?

All I wanted to do was help make a better page and if you might be willing to fine tune it, bringing in some of the bits I added (and also added by Artoftype and others) then hopefully we can do a decent job restoring some of the points and making it pretty perfect and pleasing to Justlettersandnumbers?

Thanks in advance :-)

  • Hi Mapmark! I realise you may be a friend of Mr. Tankard, and you're certainly welcome to add extra material back if you have a reference, but I think you should be careful in what you add. Like I said, we can't add any information that's not sourced, so JLAN's edit (while pretty aggressive) didn't strike me as unjustifiable - I have to say that a lot of the info added was either unsourced (or at least not sourced to a citation directly following) or not that interesting e.g. education and early work.
Although I'm not familiar with the backstory, I understand that this article was deleted a decade ago by people who felt that Mr. Tankard or people connected with him had turned it into an autobiography, and I'd prefer to keep this version short and to-the-point rather than have it go the same way.
I don't feel I have ownership of the content of the article so feel free to make improvements, but if you plan to edit articles about people connected to you, you must file a disclosure on the talk page explaining that you're writing about a friend in order to ensure transparency, and avoid adding any text that could be considered promotional. @Mapmark:, just an additional thought. I'm trying to generally upgrade the font coverage on Wikipedia and while I thought this would be a good article to add I don't in any way feel ownership to it - I also see sensitivity as important as I wouldn't consider Mr. Tankard to be a public figure. If you or Mr. Tankard just find what I've written completely objectionable and don't want this article, you or he can file a deletion proposal and I won't challenge it. Anyway, let me know what you think. Blythwood (talk) 08:12, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
