At Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mei-Ching_Fok you may wish to bold your comment to make it stand out, currently it is more easily missed. CT55555(talk) 17:47, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi CT55555, it is good to see you back around, and I like the new sig. In the AfD, I initially !voted to delete, but then unbolded it after realizing based on other comments that we don't yet have confirmation that the request is from the subject, so I am essentially neutral pending confirmation. I have added a further clarification to my note following my updated comment. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 18:04, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
Ah, got it. I've operated on the assumption the self-request is true. Would be a major plot twist if it isn't and I'd firmly reverse my decision! I'm dipping my toes slowly back into AFD. CT55555(talk) 18:10, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
Cheers again, CT55555, and I think we need clarification that the request is from the subject to prevent gaming of WP:BLPREQUESTDELETE - without a need for confirmation or credible indication that the request is from the subject, anyone could claim to be the subject and essentially short-circuit the deletion process. Beccaynr (talk) 18:22, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
I agree. CT55555(talk) 18:25, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

systemic bias

Hello, just wanted to say thanks for dropping those links to the community insights on the talk page for wp:bias. I hadn't known about those. I've been trying to get some more up-to-date info about bias at Academic studies about Wikipedia. I don't know if I could interest you in contributing anything there, but if you did I'd appreciate it. I'm pretty concerned that Wikipedia's coverage of its own bias is...not too good... Thanks either way. Larataguera (talk) 23:59, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Larataguera, and thank you as well - when I reviewed the Women in Red press page, I found this: Computational Linguistics Reveals How Wikipedia Articles Are Biased Against Women (MIT Technology Review, 2015), which may be helpful for the academic studies article, and The Wikipedia Library may have more studies available. Thank you for letting me know about the article - I have been trying to focus on finishing up a draft article, but I take various breaks to work on other projects, and I am happy to add it to my rotation. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 04:55, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

"Creative Writing Program"?

 – Beccaynr (talk) 21:43, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Beccaynr, I have seen your recent edit to the Chitra Bannerjee article. According to the manual of style, in most cases we don't capitalize academic departments or programs in Wikipedia. Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Capital_letters#Institutions Also, "University of Houston's" is a possessive, rather than the forbidden contraction. Quisqualis (talk) 18:48, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Quisqualis, I moved this discussion to the article Talk page. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 21:43, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Improving the Giving circle article

Hi, User:Beccaynr, I noticed you created the Impact100 Wikipedia article and was curious if you'd be open to collaborating on a related article. The Giving circle article has a flag, lacks secondary sources, and has too many external links and further reading entries. I drafted a new proposed sandbox to address those issues, and others have integrated their suggestions too. I won't edit the article myself due to my COI. Would you be open to review the sandbox/ publish the content if you agree with the improvements? Appreciate any feedback or collaboration in advance.--Chefmikesf (talk) 18:42, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi Chefmikesf, that sandbox draft is impressive, and I would be happy to participate in expanding the Giving circle article. I have multiple projects that I am currently working on, and reviewing sources and making revisions will take some time, so I suggest that you also post a request for assistance at the Talk page of WikiProject Organizations in the meantime. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 19:20, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi, User:Beccaynr, Thank you for your edits and suggestions thus far! I will make a post on WikiProject Organizations, though it looks like the project talk page if fairly inactive with responses. If I don't get a response on the project, when do you suggest I circle back with you?--Chefmikesf (talk) 23:47, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi Chefmikesf, I also suggest that you post an edit request on the Talk page of the Giving circle article, which will draw additional attention. I have already added the Wikiproject Organizations banner to the article Talk page with a request for attention, so posting your request will help point editors to the suggested edits in your sandbox. As for following up with me, please note that your request will remain on my Talk page for awhile, and you can prevent this discussion from being archived by adding a new comment within 30 days. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 15:11, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi, User:Beccaynr, I wrote out the requests and posted on the talk page. Also, I'm going to add the edit request tag as you suggested. Would you be open to reviewing and completing request 5 and 6? Both requests are pretty simple and remove extraneous content from the article. I appreciate your help so far, hope you have a great Thanksgiving!--Chefmikesf (talk) 18:43, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi, User:Beccaynr, Just wanted to check in again. Do you have any additional time to review another section of the edit request?--Chefmikesf (talk) 17:42, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi Chefmikesf, thank you for the reminder - I meant to reply earlier to mention that from my view, request 5 will take some time, because it requires reviewing every source (and finding the ones without hyperlinks) to determine whether they can be incorporated into the article or should remain in the Further Reading list. Editors sometimes add useful sources to the Further Reading section that can help develop the article, so I do not want to remove them without a careful review. I did make a first pass at request 6, related to the External Links section, because that is easier to sort out, and left a note about it on the article Talk page. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 17:57, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi Beccaynr, Thanks for the quick reply. Regarding the further reading section, I will go ahead and find the links to the request, so its easy for you to review. Second, I like what you removed from the external links section, are you open to adding one more link? -- What is a Giving Circle --Chefmikesf (talk) 18:23, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi Beccaynr, I just add the rest of the links to the Further reading section! Also, I just took another look, The Structure and function section might be a straight-forward place to start reviewing well sourced content. Thanks for your help! Best -- Chefmikesf (talk) 22:22, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Science fiction book reviews

I have a vague memory that you once mentioned a good source for finding science fiction book reviews? I"m trying to establish the notability of an obscure science fiction author. Any tips? CT55555(talk) 18:16, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi CT55555, it is probably the Internet Speculative Fiction Database, and Locus is sometimes helpful. I have also noticed it can sometimes be helpful to specifically search the Gale databases instead of using the broader WP Library search function. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 18:32, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! CT55555(talk) 18:38, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Marilyn Gayle Hoff

On 23 December 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Marilyn Gayle Hoff, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that American author Marilyn Gayle Hoff was honored by a Fourth of July parade float as an unsung hero? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Marilyn Gayle Hoff. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Marilyn Gayle Hoff), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi

Hi thanks for your edit of my edit on the Normandale Park shooting and directing me to the Talk page, I have a bad habit of not really checking there first, sorry. I re-added some stuff that had been removed that I'm pretty sure didn't need to be removed per the information on the talk page. I think I have everything right, but apologies in advance if I missed something. Leaky.Solar (talk) 22:54, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Leaky.Solar, thank you for following up and for making revisions. However, from my view, the 'Investigation' section includes allegations that should not be in this article before a conviction. I think it would be most careful per WP:BLP policy to remove this, at least for now, and perhaps consider asking for input from the Biographies of living persons noticeboard about what content may be appropriate to include. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 23:03, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
All good, I'm assuming you mean the comments made by the roommate, if so I can remove it for now. The sentence that starts with "In June 2022," I originally pulled from the Shooting section but it was in the article before I edited, so I think maybe its best to leave it and maybe change the section to Aftermath for now. Leaky.Solar (talk) 23:11, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
The roommate comments first got my attention, but when I reviewed the article more closely, I removed some more, because I favor a cautious approach given the current state of this criminal case. Thank you for your incremental approach to editing, and please let me know if you have further thoughts or questions. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 23:21, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
