License tagging for Image:Jaffna.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jaffna.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With the material that you added, I have created another main article named as above. Jaffna Kingdom is a summary article so we add a summary from the main articles into it. Hopefully you will improve the main article created with your material. Also read WP:CITE as to how to reference articles. Taprobanus (talk) 13:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly advice[edit]

Dear Jeronimo, all the problems you seem to have is because you are a newbie to wikipedia and you don’t know the rules well enough. We are paranoid about copy right here and rightfully so. So even when you coy stuff from your won writings, it is governed by the copy right policies of websites that you are writing to. Say you wrote to Colombo pages but your stuff in Colombo pages doesn’t belong to you. It belongs to Colombopages. Further you have to read WP:COI because you seemed to have written your own bio in Wikipedia which is a big no no. Anyway, would like to see you stay around but start slowly, read all the rules from the five pillars do look at some good examples (not Sri Lanka related articles, they are bloody mess) and do read an encyclopedia preface (such as Britanica) because we follow the same strict rules regarding most of the important articles. When you are using WP:RS sources always use the latest source on the subject matter, make sure the overall article is WP:NPOV and is WP:NOTABLE. The best quality articles in South Asian history is maintained by the Karnataka working group. Sad to say not one Sri Lanka related article is of that quality although I am working on Jaffna kingdom and Aryacakravarti dynasty in the same quality scale. We just have resolved most of the conflict related issues through mediation and admin good behavior conduct for Sri Lanka centric editors. Do take a look at it, it is noteworthy how Wikipedia has solved the Sri Lanka conflict but not the actual country after 30 years of it. We still argue about who is responsible for Black July any way stay calm, cool edit and read the rules and start slow may be you will make the Kotte Kingdom a featured article one day. Taprobanus (talk) 20:00, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
the colombo post does not have copywrite over my material. If you wish, I could get the editor to write to you tomorrow as its night in Sri Lanka. Please provide me with an e-mail number. --Bebadda (talk) 20:12, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good, I am not the person who deleted it. It was User:Orangemike ( I think?) you should follow up with him. Happy editing and looking forward to many more contributions from you Taprobanus (talk) 20:21, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh it was User:Aecis, still you are better off writing it in your won words with proper WP:RS sources using the WP:CITE methodTaprobanus (talk) 20:24, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Its not Colombo page. its the Colombo post and I have copywrite and can get the editor to e-mail you if you wish.--Bebadda (talk) 20:50, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I stubed it for you Vimaladharmasuriya I with citations from reputable sources including an academic book Taprobanus (talk) 21:48, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you're willing to license your copyrighted article to Wikipedia, see this article for instructions on how to do so. Believe me, Jeronimo, nobody here wants to discourage you from providing new articles, especially on non-Western history where we are so weak! It's just that we have to be very militant because well-meaning editors constantly post copyrighted material with the best of intentions, but we cannot be a party to violating people's copyrights. Once the article is re-posted with the relevant permissions, then we can work on wikilinking, sourcing, etc. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:59, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Orange mike, Previously I was told to send an e-mail authorising use, which I did. Now you want me to donate the article.? Whats next? I will have to obtain a degree to be able to jump through all the hoops on your site. Its my article and its your site. You have your rules and I have mine. I authorize you to reinstate my article and use it and state that there are no copyright issues. Since its your site and you deleted it, you can decide what you want to do. My contribution is my article. My rules are, I am not jumping hoops.

regards

--Bebadda (talk) 05:52, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The information in your stub is inaccurate. Vimaladharmasuriya was not baptized Don Joan, but Don Joao of Austria. He did not send an army to Jaffna. It was his successor, Senerat who sent an army to Jaffna. My article which was deleted was historically accurate and was done after several years of research because of the various discrepancies found on different articles . The picture I placed with it was obtained by me in Rotterdam last summer. I have not done anything wrong and I have copywrite to the material I published. It is disheartening that it was removed so easily. I will not contribute to Vimaladharmasuriya again to be removed by someone else again. regards --Bebadda (talk) 21:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dude please take it easy, we need more Sri Lankans like you in Wikipedia than what wwe already have. Guys are just follwing copy right issues, I will help you dont give up this easy. Thanks Taprobanus (talk) 22:01, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vimaladharmasuri I[edit]

Regarding your message on my talk page: The burden of proving that an article doesn't violate any copyrights lies with the article's author, in this case with you. I hope you understand that we can't take any chances when it comes to possible copyright violations. Copyright infringements can be speedy deleted under speedy deletion criterion G11. The article that was deleted can be restored if you can ascertain that you indeed do own the copyrights to what you posted. There are two ways to do so. They are outlined in Wikipedia:Copyright problems#Copyright owners who submitted their own work to Wikipedia. AecisBrievenbus 21:28, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
