  • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Guild of Copy Editors December 2022 Newsletter error

The GOCE December 2022 newsletter, as sent on 9 December, contains an erroneous start date for our December Blitz. The Blitz will start on 11 December rather than on 17 December, as stated in the newsletter. I'm sorry for the mistake and for disrupting your talk page; thanks for your understanding. Australian Skeptics

Hi ... I think we may have met in person some time ago. Anyway, I have written an article critical of the Australian Skeptics, that you might want to have a look at : https://johnaugust.com.au/article/why-i-am-not-australian-skeptic JohnAugust (talk) 05:09, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi John, my memory is not great, but i think I recall you sending me something very much like the above quite a long time ago. I do not disagree with what you say. I also belong to the Humanists and think they are more important than the Skeptics. Too often the Skeptics make a big deal about something that is in no way important. --Bduke (talk) 06:12, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

King's Guide

Do you have a source that shows Queen's Guide has been renamed to King's Guide. According to The Queen’s Guide award is the highest award you can work towards in guiding it is still called the Queen's Guide. I could not find any sources indicating that it has changed name. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 20:25, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

I just realised that if there is a source showing a name change and King's Guide is the most common use then Queen's Guide should move there and King's Guide should not be a disambiguation. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 20:27, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
The King (or Queen) is very much involved in the award. Every year all the King's Scouts and Kings Guides are invited to a rally at Windsor and the King addresses them. I remember going to it way back in 1956. I was living in UK then. Wikipedia says "King's Scouts are entitled to attend one King's Scout Parade held at Windsor Castle each year held on the Sunday closest to St George's Day; this is the only time when Scouts officially march". --Bduke (talk) 20:59, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
I was also in the Scouts in the UK until I emigrated to Canada. The Queen died in September so the Guides and Scouts would not have attended a rally at Windsor during the reign of King Charles. However, the King's Scout, and here's the reference to show that the Queen's Scout was renamed the King's Scout, isn't a usable source for King's Guide. There doesn't seem to be any current references to call the Queen's Guide the King's Guide. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk),
I agree there does not seem to be any evidence that the award is not still called "Queen's Guide". --Bduke (talk) 08:26, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

What do you mean? Xx236 (talk) 10:51, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

It has been discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/So Good (soy beverage) and merged as a result of that discussion. --Bduke (talk) 11:01, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Why the page does still exists? It should be a redirect now or perhaps deleted. Xx236 (talk) 11:17, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
It does not exist now. It has been merged. --Bduke (talk) 02:17, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Greetings!

Apologies for this message out of the blue but I saw one of your (helpful) edits and, not having seen the username before, had a look at your user page. I have rarely felt such a sense of affinity as I did reading your page. I may be a couple of years younger and my academic prowess was at London rather than Oxford (although my children and grandchildren have done much to right that balance), but I too was much involved in Scouting and also abandoned religious belief quite early on. I haven't had the multi national working experience but I have had the pleasure of being a working scientist in Wales, and now temporarily resident in New Zealand for as long as I am allowed. Many thanks for writing your user page and reminding me that maybe, just maybe, Brexit is not forever. Best wishes  Velella  Velella Talk   03:45, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment. I posted on your user page. --Bduke (talk) 03:57, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi regards your Revert. I have take WikiChemists out because i didn´t find in any source that WikiChemists get the award. As sample here there is nothing with WikiChemists. Or did I look in the wrong source? Viele Grüße aus Deutschland :-) Calle Cool (talk) 12:34, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for you comment on my talk page. If you had given an edit summary, it would have been clear to me and others that your edit was fine, but you did not. Edit summaries are important. --Bduke (talk) 21:08, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
You are right - I will improve it at the next edit ;-) --Calle Cool (talk) 06:18, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Query about NJOURNALS

I am doing an informal survey of just you to see if I can get some preliminary understanding of how certain issues are seen by the wider WPcommunity, if at all. Do you consider WP:NJOURNALS to have the weight of a policy or guideline. If so, how did you come to that decision? I am trying to figure out what exactly is going on with that area of Wikipedia and something seems off to me. jps (talk) 12:16, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

It is labelled as an essay and I consider that makes it a guideline. --Bduke (talk) 23:59, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your explanation. That is useful information. jps (talk) 13:51, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Appreciation

Hello Bduke, I don't know how to start this comment but let me look for somewhere to start from. After taking a look at your userpage, your comments on the talk pages of some Nigerian Wikipedians (like this one) that I have come across, your user contributions, I want to specially thank you for being kind. For being a great admin too when you were still one. Thank you for all your contributions to this multilingual project. You see, see the project you contributed to, see what it has become now - the horsepower of knowledge and information. Maybe I wouldn't have met this project in this shape if you didn't contribute to it. I will be watching your TP from now :). Thank you once again! Vanderwaalforce (talk) 16:14, 5 October 2023 (UTC)s

Many thanks for your comment. After my time in Kano and my recent time on Wikipedia, I think I can help users from Nigeria as it must be more difficult for many there to edit than it is for me. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you and your colleagues. However, I am getting old and my memory is not what it was. Bduke (talk) 01:02, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

@Bduke Yes! I will be in touch with you whenever necessary. Many thanks! Vanderwaalforces (talk) 04:52, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
