December 2021[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website - I have blocked this account. Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a change of username of your current account here. The new username must represent only yourself as an individual and comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:59, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, Heritage Trust Network, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Discussing an unblock[edit]

@Jimfbleak would you be open to unblocking this account? Wikimedia UK are working with the Heritage Trust to provide Wikipedia training for heritage professionals so they can share their knowledge. As part of this, we'll be covering how to disclose and manage conflicts of interest, and the importance of Wikipedia's policies about verifiability and neutrality. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:01, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Nevell (WMUK), please look at the history, Cabayi has already renamed and unblocked Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:10, 29 September 2022 (UTC) ⋅[reply]
From the block log, it looks like a block was reinstated after that. Would it be possible to lift that block? Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:22, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jimfbleak, please excuse the second ping, but I wanted to check what the next steps should be. Cabayi removed the block on 3 December 2021 once the account had been renamed, but a new block was put in place a day later. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 08:51, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Richard Nevell (WMUK) My apologies, you are correct. Immediately after being unblocked the first time, the user recreated the same article without declaring a conflict of interest, despite the warning on this page that declaring paid editor status is mandatory. It's pretty clear that this editor also doesn't understand how to create and reference an article, and if I were to unblock, what is to stop more of the same? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:41, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Jimfbleakthanks for taking the time to respond. I'm currently undergoing training on this with the Wikimedia Connected Heritage team. I should have undertaken training before attempting my first edits as I was totally new to Wikipedia editing and didn't know what I was doing. This training is remedying that but I can only listen in rather than participate fully as my IP address is blocked. If I was to be unblocked this wouldn't happen again as I'm receiving training. Thanks very much. BGormley (talk) 09:46, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The missteps came from unfamiliarity with how Wikipedia works. To remedy that, Wikimedia UK are running training sessions for the heritage sector on Wikipedia, establishing core principles and the role of policies (WP:V, WP:RS, WP:NPOV). I think that will help BGormley, and the training also covers how to manage conflicts of interest. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 10:03, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I think you have got the message. Thanks to Richard Nevell (WMUK), I'll unblock shortly Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:04, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
