Please do not add advertising or inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Dear Vsmith, I do not agree with you. The links I've provided - although do indeed link to my site - are an addition to the other links wich in fact are also linking to external - and as you mention even promoting the reference site. That said, my images are part of the cave and mine, and as such should be allowed to be placed here too. I consider that my site where the images reside is much less promotional than the other links. I will wait for your comments, and we can take it from there, but once again since the link is completely related to the mine and or cave I consider the fact that you removed wrong, in that case please remove all the other external links. Thanks! 33photo (talk) 02:45, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's really quite simple: we don't use Wikipedia to promoye our own stuff. Vsmith (talk) 03:01, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding advertising or inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. Vsmith (talk) 03:04, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I completely disagree with you, I am not advertising anything. I am providing additional images that readers might be interested in seeing - in fact most of the images in those links cannot be licensed or purchased - so your argument lacks any foundation. Who are you to judge? Who appointed you such task? In that case - once again - remove other external links. For example - National Geographic does sell through their site and its there - why? Because you put it there? Perhaps you are affiliated with them? Why did you add them? It goes both ways. If I can't add them and no one else knows about the images who will be able to add the link let alone appreciate the images? I am not spamming and it is offensive that you accuse me of such thing. Perhaps you should consider adding a mediator to this matter. 33photo (talk) 00:34, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the policy pages. Especially read Wikipedia:External links#Advertising and conflicts of interest and note: ...you should avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent—even if WP guidelines seem to imply that it may otherwise be linked. Also read WP:COI and WP:Civility. Like everyone here I'm just another volunteer working to improve and maintain articles. I don't believe I added the other links you mention above and perhaps some of them do need to go... but, that is irrelevant here. You are free to ask at Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard if you wish another opinion. Vsmith (talk) 01:37, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
