Arleigh Jay C. Sitoy (December 8, 1958 – November 13, 2016) was a Filipino Visayan politician from Cebu, Philippines.
Early life[edit]
Arleigh Sitoy was born on December 8, 1958 and the son of politician Adelino Sitoy.[1] He acquired a political science degree from the University of San Carlos and a law degree from San Carlos and Ateneo de Manila University. His post-graduate studies included a master's degree in public administration from the University of the Philippines System and in business economics at the University of Asia and the Pacific.[2]
He was married to Cristina[1] and the family bore children namely Leighna Katrina, Kristine Mary Rose, Martin and Natileigh Marie.[3]
Political career[edit]
He became mayor of the municipality of Cordova for three terms starting from 1998 to 2007.[2] On May 13, 2007, three firearms, ammunition, cash, campaign materials, and documents were discovered during a checkpoint operation in a black van owned by his father, Adelino Sitoy. Law enforcers were investigating a different case when they discovered the vehicle that was parked at a fast-food restaurant located in Lapu-lapu City. and from 2010 to 2016, he was elected and served as Member of the Cebu Provincial Board[2] for two terms representing Cebu's 6th district.[4] During his stint at the provincial board, he attended a few of the legislative sessions bound in wheelchair and chaired the committees on Differently-Abled Persons, as well as on the Arts and Culture.[2]
In 2014, he was considered the wealthiest Capitol official with net worth of ₱73.3 million as declared in statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.[4]
Later years[edit]
He moved to Manila and worked as senior consultant of his father, Adelino Sitoy, who was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as Presidential Legislative Liaison Officer in Malacañang on September 1, 2016.[2]
He succumbed to pulmonary embolism[1] and died in St. Luke's Medical Center in in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City on November 13, 2016 at the age of 58.[2] His remains were brought back to Cebu Provincial Capitol for a eulogy, moved to Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapel in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City for three-day wake, and laid to rest in his hometown of Cordova.[5]
