Mark Cunningham in 2006

After nearly 15 years as a professional touring and recording musician, Mark Cunningham entered journalism in the early 1990s as a full-time freelance contributor to a wide range of music and arts publications. In 1998, this led to his co-founding (with Andy Lenthall) of Total Production International — a monthly industry magazine dedicated to the technical/creative design and production of concert tours, theatre shows, festivals and other live event genres. Today, under the management of Mondiale Publishing Limited, Total Production International (TPi) is regarded as the world’s leading publication in its specialist field, and its annual TPi Awards — directed and hosted by Mark — is a benchmark for event production excellence.

As an established author, Mark’s books include: Good Vibrations: A History Of Record Production (Sanctuary Publishing, 1996) and Live & Kicking: The Rock Concert Industry In The Nineties (Sanctuary Publishing, 1999). Other titles currently in development include a biography of the pioneering Celtic rock band, Horslips, and a history of concert touring. Mark has also contributed to Seventeen Watts by Mo Foster (as editor) (Sanctuary Publishing, 1997) and U2 Show by Diana Scrimgeour (as chapter contributor & editor) (Orion Press, 2004)

Additional work by Mark has included consultancy for Derek Taylor at Apple on The Beatles’ Anthology project (1995/6); Landseer Film & TV on TV series Routes Of Rock (2000); Pink Floyd on the Pulse DVD project (2006); The Bootleg Beatles’ 2005-6 UK/European tour (as video designer); and several BBC radio documentaries.
