Alastor Moody, more commonly referred to as Mad-Eye Moody is a fictional character in the Harry Potter series created by J.K. Rowling. Mad-Eye is introduced as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as Moody was a famed Auror who was responsible for capturing or killing multiple Dark Wizards, and was notable for his magical prosthetic eye and his metallic prosthetic leg. At the end of the book it is revealed that Moody was actually being impersonated by Death Eater Barty Crouch Jr as a part of a plan to revive Lord Voldemort and kill Harry Potter, and the real Mad-Eye was being imprisoned by Crouch. The real Mad-Eye then became a member of the Order of the Phoenix and was tasked with rescuing Harry after a Dementor attack by Ministry official Dolores Umbridge on Harry and his cousin Dudley Dursley. Mad-Eye was portrayed in the film adaptations by Irish actor Brendan Gleeson in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, the latter of which Gleeson shares the screen with his son, Domhnall who portrays Bill Weasley.
