Keren Shahar is an Israeli media executive[1] and the current CEO[2] of Keshet International. Widely regarded as one of the leading pioneers of the Israeli formats sales market[3] - and named one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Global Television by The Hollywood Reporter - Shahar first joined Keshet Media Group[4], Israel’s largest media company, in 2004.

Career[edit]

After joining Keshet Media Group in 2004, Shahar was appointed Keshet Formats Manager in 2006, where she was responsible for selling Keshet's formats abroad including Prisoners of War, which became Showtime’s multi-Emmy-winning Homeland. She soon also took on responsibility for Keshet Broadcasting's Acquisitions department as well, licensing formats for adaptation locally in Israel.

When Keshet International was established in 2012, Shahar was appointed to lead the company’s sales team. As a founding member, Shahar built its distribution business from the ground up[5]. In addition to leading the sales and acquisition team for a decade, Shahar also served as COO, overseeing the company’s business and operational aspects as the CEO’s second-in-command[6].

During this time, Keshet International grew to become an influential player in the international content market, with an extensive list of shows and formats picked up by the likes of HBO[7], NBC[8], and the BBC, as well as streaming platforms including Netflix[9], Apple TV[10], Disney+[11], and Amazon Prime[12].

Noteworthy successes include False Flag and When Heroes Fly, which have both been adapted as Suspicion[13] and Echo 3[14] for Apple TV+ by Keshet UK and Keshet Studios respectively; KI's co-production Rough Diamonds for Netflix[15] with De Mensen, as well as best-selling non-scripted formats such as Boom![16], Singletown[17], Deal With It!, The Hit List[18], Rising Star, and more.

Shahar was appointed CEO[19] by Keshet Media Group's CEO Avi Nir after Alon Shtruzman stepped down[20], after leading the company for a decade. Since taking on this new role, Shahar has restructured her management team[21], launched a new non-scripted division in the US[22], and see Tresor TV's scripted division relaunch as standalone scripted production company Keshet Germany[23].

Prior to joining Keshet Media Group, Keren worked for the Israeli publishing and entertainment company Head-Arzi as a Label Manager for the international gaming company Electronic Arts. Shahar holds a dual bachelor's degree in political science and general studies from the University of Tel Aviv.
