Sean D. Murphy (born October 20, 1960) is an American author and law professor. He has been nominated by the the United States to serve on the International Law Commission. He has published many articles in national and international law journals, including the American Journal of International Law, of which he also serves as a member of the board of editors. As a Legal Counselor of the U.S. Embassy in The Hague from 1995-1998, he represented the United States in front of the International Court of Justice [1]

He currently teaches classes in Public International Law, Foreign Relations Law, and International Organizations at the George Washington University Law School

Education[edit]

Born in Bethesda, Maryland, Murphy graduated as valedictorian from Walt Whitman High School in 1978. In 1982 he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Catholic University, he received his J.D. from Columbia University in 1985, his LL.M. from The University of Cambridge in 1987 and his S.J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1995.
