Gay Bryant is a magazine editor with thirty years of creative achievement in print. Winner of the 1985 National Magazine Award for General Excellence as Editor-in-Chief of Mirabella, Bryant earlier won attention as the editor developing the then-groundbreaking magazine Working Woman and is credited with popularizing the Glass Ceiling concept. Born in Britain, she came to the New York publishing world in the 70s as a founding member of the team that launched Penthouse. She has since made an impact on men’s and women’s publications, working for major media corporations on three continents, notably as a Vice President at the New York Times Magazine Group and for Rupert Murdoch’s magazine companies in USA and Australia. Also, working independently, she helped develop and turn around a wide range of magazines that reflected society’s change and evolution. Somewhere in between she found the time to lecture, appear on TV and to write three books: The Working Woman Report, The Underground Travel Guide, and How I Learned To Like Myself (with Bockris and Wylie). She is currently working on a memoir based on her experiences in the publishing world in the 70s and 80s, The Accidental Editor: A Memoir of the Magazine World. She lives in New York with her family.
