Removal of Shaista Ikramullah.jpg[edit]

I noticed that you removed the recently uploaded image: Shaista Ikramullah.jpg. The image was uploaded with copyrights information: Public Domain of Pakistan

Please specify how this upload violates copyrights law.

Re: Removal of Shaista Ikramullah.jpg[edit]

Thank you for your reply.

Indeed I mentioned PD in Pakistan with the image. As you said that it is under URAA and wasn't properly licensed, Cannot we re-upload the image in Wikipedia?

Deletion of Brenda Barrett picture[edit]

How is there no way to prove who is in the image, the source link that I provided says the picture if of Vanessa Marcil. Here is the link the photo: http://ghspoilers.info/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/vanessa_marcil_1280_800_aug052009.jpg and here it the original page I found it on - http://ghspoilers.info/2010/06/08/comings-goings-2/ So what is the problem--Nk3play2 my buzz 04:29, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

The image was also used on soapnet and the article says that the photo source is ABC, here is the link - http://sn.soapnet.go.com/news/article/comings-and-goings-brendas-back --Nk3play2 my buzz 04:38, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

John Soares photo[edit]

Actually, I've contacted John Soares, and he said he emailed permission today to WP to use that image under a creative commons license, so they should be getting to fixing the permissions for that themselves shortly. (Personally all of that legalese is just too confusing for me...) --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 10:36, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

iPhone image[edit]

Hi, I saw you deleted an image from iPhone. I cam here to complain when I realized that 1, the deleted image had no fair use rationale and 2, you were kind enough to move up another image to fill the slot. The new image, which I particularly admire because it shows the device being held in a lifelike way, I presume is acceptable because you didn't delete it too. As for the old image, the uploader and I had a discussion yesterday as to how to best crop it and came to a nice compromise, so we've been in touch. If I instruct him how to properly add a fair use rationale, would you object to him re-uploading the photo? HereToHelp (talk to me) 22:55, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Duh![edit]

If you bothered looking at the template on the Jean Colin jpg page, you would find that it is used where the copyright in the EU has expired since the image is over 70 years old. The image come from a British magazine 72 years old, as it is stated there. Is 72 years older than 70 years? I don't want to know about American copyright since it has no relevance here. British magazine. British image. Unknown author. Publicity picture. I removed your deletion notice as you probably don't want others to realise you do not have a clue. Ask someone next time if you are not sure. (Cyberia3 (talk) 17:57, 28 June 2010 (UTC))

America does not rule Europe[edit]

If something is copyrighted in Europe, that is nothing to do with America, despite what Americans might think. Not a damn thing. If the copyright runs out in Europe, that is nothing to do with America either as America is not part of the Commonwealth since 1776. If an American tried to interfere with British copyright anywhere in the EU, he would be sent packing with a footprint on his backside.

Do you understand that if something is not copyrighted in America, it is not copyrighted in America? Copyright on the 1938 magazine concerned is for England (no actual mention of UK), Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. There is no such thing as retroactive copyright and copyright is only where stated, as in no mention of America.

I doubt that people have to jump through as many hoops to get something published in the 240 year old Encyclopedia Britannica volumes as they have to to add something to the wiki which is a glorified website. If someone complains to the wiki that they do not like the way something they own the copyright on was used, it does not mean a massive recall of encyclopedia volumes to be pulped. It is the work of a minute to delete it. That is if the person themself does not do it. (Cyberia3 (talk) 18:47, 28 June 2010 (UTC))

I might be a Wikipedia newbie, but I just don't understand something...[edit]

Hello! :)

Firstly, just wanted to say that I'm a complete Wikipedia newbie and I'd genuinely appreciate your input on the changes you made to the page I was writing about Serif DrawPlus

I was just trying to copy the Inkscape page in format and style, but list the features available in Serif DrawPlus, obviously. It's most definitely not meant to be written like an advert, it's meant to be information and factual, so why was it flagged as being written like an advert? Have you any suggestions for terms which particularly read badly that I could change? Why was the object creation category removed? I just tried to list things like Inkscape, but maybe phrased a little more wordily rather than with brevity, lol!

I'm genuinely just interested in making a nice looking, factual page and thought I had, so any comments are welcome as I just want to get it sorted properly and leave it there. I was fed up with looking at a screenshot of DrawPlus 7 whenever I searched Wikipedia for DrawPlus...

EDIT - Actually, why have you said it's the wrong logo? It's the company's new logo - the one on the Serif Europe Wikipedia page is the old logo. Why are the free usage images wrong? They're just screenshots and I thought I'd uploaded them and tagged them as such?

Cheers, Matt —Preceding unsigned comment added by MattP4478 (talkcontribs) 08:35, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

iPhone 4 Image[edit]

Before I get into this, I should mention that I'm probably going to be away from Wikipedia for large amounts of time coming up, so don't count on a quick reply. That out of the way, I wanted to let you know that I take issue with your claim that the image Image:iPhone 4.jpg needs fair use licensing. It's a photo I did completely by myself. Yes, it does happen to capture parts of the UI, but it's not a photo of the UI. If it were an actual screenshot, yes, I could see the need for fair use licensing, but it's not. I realize this is an ongoing debate here on Wikipedia. aido2002talk·userpage 18:20, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hi Feydey, thank you for examining my images. I have been using wikipedia for about 4 months and still I am learning its features. Some Images were uploaded by me when I was a newbie (i did not now these copyright stuff) so these images may be a copyright Infingement. Sorry for those uploads, i will not do that again. Sorry if you felt that this message is abusing. I meant no disrespect.

Just if you can give a list of Images you have deleted of mine, so that I can tell you which are taken by me and which aren't

Thank You and Sorry.

When is 'Needless' NOT 'Needless'?[edit]

Re: Your edits to my DrawPlus Wikipedia entry... The last time you removed chunks of this article due to it being 'written like an advert' I asked you to tell me what terms you thought were bad and I'd change it... I got no response so removed everything that looked like it was a positive word and put it back up. Now you remove it again saying it is a 'needless' section? I view a Feature List as a very useful section... as do the people on the Inkscape Wikipedia entry that I told you last time my article was modelled on. Why have you removed it? I'm happy to change the article if there's actually a real reason to, rather than just an opinion of one person over one other person - I only wanted to put something up there for anyone like me that's actually interested to find out about it!?! Please tell me why you want to change it and justify this against the precedent already set by other articles - in particular tell me why it is less relevant than the feature list in the Inkscape article that has happily existed for quite some time? Adding empty {{Information}}[edit]

Hi Feydey, could you explain how this edit helps people? multichill (talk) 15:25, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

It helps folks to go and add author, source, description etc. -- needed info to the image's page. The image summary provides necessary details to support the use of the image copyright tag. I would assume, that as an administrator on Wikimedia Commons You would understand the requirements needed for images to be included in en.wikipedia. Wikipedia:Image use policy is a good policy page for image requirements.
The recommended image summary contains some or all of the following:
  • Description: The subject of the image
  • Source: The copyright holder of the image or URL of the web page the image came from
  • Date: Date the image was created. The more exact, the better
  • Location: Where the image was created. The more exact the better
  • Author: The image creator, especially if different from the copyright holder
  • Permission: Who or what law or policy gives permission to post on Wikipedia with the selected image copyright tag
  • Other versions of this file: Directs users to derivatives of the image if they exist on Wikipedia.
Hope this helps. If this communiqué has been insufficient You are more than welcome to entreat for more details. Best, feydey (talk) 16:13, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

False positive report[edit]

The other day you submitted a false positive report because you found yourself unable to edit someone's talk page. If you have not already seen, it was due to an accident in the code of a particular edit filter which was quickly fixed by the MediaWiki software itself. The code has been reverted to the last good version and this should not happen again. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, however; if people hadn't reported it we wouldn't have known there was a problem. I have removed the false positive reports as I felt it was easier to just go to the people who submitted them directly. Soap 23:39, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

File:City of Adelaide as RNVR club rooms on Clyde.jpg[edit]

Greetings Feydey,

  • On 15 July you tagged File:City of Adelaide as RNVR club rooms on Clyde.jpg as missing evidence of permission.
  • I sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org on 15 July with a copy of a 2007 email showing author's willingness for it to be published.
  • That was rejected by User talk:VernoWhitney on 15 July as being insufficient evidence.
  • I wrote to the original author and obtained explicit statement as to the license. That statement followed Wikipedia guidelines. I emailed that statement to permissions-en@wikimedia.org on 17 July.
  • Thus far there has not been any reaction to this from anyone with an OTRS account.

I was going to leave a comment on User talk:VernoWhitney but when trying to create a New Section a notice comes up stating that VernoWhitney is away on vacation from 15 July until 24 July. I am a bit worried that my second email has been missed because User talk:VernoWhitney is on leave. I hope that you might be able to help by acting upon the second email that I submitted. Thanks in anticipation.--Cruickshanks (talk) 10:17, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

How do I fix this problem?[edit]

File source problem with File:DfE_Logo3.pdf

Thank you for uploading File:DfE_Logo3.pdf. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 16:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Feydey. This image is now used in the Peyton Sawyer article. I am not sure why you tagged it for information, though. Is the information I provided not enough? I followed the simple fair-use rationale format that I always follow. Flyer22 (talk) 23:09, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

But what about promotional pictures that are no longer listed on the official sites as promotional? This image, for example, was released back in 2003, when there used to be a The WB channel. Since then, it has circulated all over the Internet. Flyer22 (talk) 02:56, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: File source problem with File:Peyton wardrobe evolution.JPG[edit]

As I stated on my talk page: "Feydey, I already provided the source information. All of it, except one image, are screenshots meshed together. The imagery was created by me for critical commentary, which I have experienced to be quite allowed on Wikipedia. Television screenshots put side by side or together are allowed, as long as they have a decent fair-use rationale. How much more 'decent' does my fair use rationale get in this case, considering that the image is being used for significant critical commentary?" Flyer22 (talk) 16:10, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Never mind. I changed the image; all of the shots are now screenshots. The source information (where I got the screenshots) is also clear, as it has always been. Flyer22 (talk) 17:14, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Problem?[edit]

Images Added[edit]

In reply to what you posted on my talk page: I am not sure how to go about adding that information. The images came from the Australian Government public information archives (one of the references in the reference list). How do I add that information? Timeoin (talk) 08:18, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh, okay. My apologies! (Although, the images are publicly accessible anyway, but I understand the problem!) Thankyou for your help! Timeoin (talk) 08:21, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello again[edit]

Can you please help me again, Feydey? (You seem to know what you are doing, and I clearly do not!) I have been trying to make a page for Ed Husic. I have found Australian government archives that place him divisional secretary of the CEPU union, and later the National President. How would I go about adding this information into the Wikipedia officially? (I wish to add it in the proper manner, and there are valid references (presuming publicly released Australian government documentation is considered valid!) to back up these statements. Timeoin (talk) 09:06, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Do I use Infobox MP for the CEPU positions, when I find them officially? Timeoin (talk) 09:25, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay. Thankyou for your help! (And apologies for these annoying questions!) Timeoin (talk) 09:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Image: mcmahon ring.jpg[edit]

I noticed you have removed this image from the Linda McMahon U.S. Senate campaign, 2010, which I disagree with. I have a fair-use rationale on the page, and I am unsure what needs to be done to satisfy your requirments as to the necessary rationale.

please communicate your desires with me, and I will put as many rationale reasons as I need to make you happy. ;-)

Sincerely, -Screwball23 talk 23:30, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

I wanted to ask another question. I hope that you have an answer. As I said, I am very new at this and this is my first Wikipage. How might someone deal with people that edit the page with inaccurate information and or malicious intent? If this becomes an issue, who would I contact about it? I have saved a backup of my page.

Removal of photo from Double Indemnity...[edit]

Greetings. You removed a photo of director Billy Wilder from the article on the 1944 film Double Indemnity with an edit summary that it was "not critically discussed in the article." The article is little but a critical examination of Wilder's role in the development of the movie: the development of the treatment, then the screenplay, then the design of the "look" of the picture, the casting, the performances... Wilder truly did bring the auteur method of filmmaking to the project long before it was commonplace or even recognized, and the article discusses this in nearly every paragraph. Removal of that photo leaves the readers of the article without a clue about the singular guiding hand that created the subject of the article. And that decreases the reading experience of the reader. The photo really ought to be there. Thank you. — HarringtonSmith (talk) 11:29, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Being new to Wikipedia I am trying to get a better understanding of image use within articles. In your justification for removal of the Billy Wilder image you cited point 8 of the policy on non-free content criteria. Can you help me to understand how the determination is made as to whether a photo enhances the readers understanding of an article or does not? As a reader, in my opinion, when I read an article that goes into detail of how a film is created, seeing a picture of the person that was the driving force behind all of the creative aspects of the project enhances the article. Any guidance would be appreciated. ThanksDohhh22 (talk) 14:24, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Dear Magog, Regarding images, I sent you a few messages within the template I received. You have not seen them probably. Please visit this page to resolve the issue (and also my talk page) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Airplaneman Maybe you can clarify it with Airplaneman. Some of these photographs are already licensed under CCO 1.0 Universal at the Internet Archives. I don’t know how to add the tag now since photographs are already downloaded but I think the appropriate tag would be CCO 1.0 Universal for those already licensed and –Release into public domain. Best regards, Mountlovcen8 (talk) 23:02, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Dear Feydey, I received several messages from both you and Magog recently and that is the reason my previous message was sent to you but was meant for Magog . I am sorry about that, but still, please read it since it is related to the same question—photographs. I think now, Airplanman (see his page in the previous message), Magog, and you have enough information to resolve this issue. Tags are: CCO 1.0 Universal and –Release to public domain. Regards, Mountlovcen8 (talk) 23:12, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Magog already provided me with instructions and the problem is resolved. Photographs are licensed now. Thanks, Mountlovcen8 (talk) 03:17, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Question to: Orphaned non-free media (File:VSide_guide_picture_january_2011.jpg)[edit]

Hi feydey, I uploaded the media for an article that is currently in a user space (which is also the cause that it was removed from that article by a bot). As it's going to be (hopefully) moved into the main wiki pages, I thought that it's okay to have it in a user space or does that apply for this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NFCC#9) too? If everything's clear may I remove the deletion tag? I'm not quite sure if I'm allowed to do that and I don't want to get into any trouble :)

Thank you in advance. Moritz37 (talk) 14:10, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Your msg about moving a photo to Commons[edit]

Hi - You posted a msg after I edited Murtle Lake that "Image is a candidate for moving to Wikimedia Commons". As a contributor for only 2 weeks now, I still have a lot to learn and I'm not sure what the difference is between Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. I am using the "Upload File" tool for images. Is there a better way? It seems to work OK as far as putting images into the articles. Thanks. Roland. Roland Neave (talk) 02:01, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Ivan Kamaras2.jpg[edit]

hi Feydey, thanks for your message. In honest truth, I gave the best answers I could for use of this image, but I was a little confused by what I was being asked. It is an image from a BBC show that I know was supplied to the actor and others as a publicity shot for the show Silent Witness and has been used elsewhere on the web. It is a free image, but probably needs to carry an acknowledgement that it comes from the BBC. How do I explain all of that so as to satisfy Wikipedia's requirements? ...

Re: File permission problem with File:52_Sikhs_4_FF.jpg[edit]

Hello there. I have made changes to the licensing tag. I hope they would suffice. The image in question is a 108 years old badge/logo of a Pakistani infantry battalion. I am a regimental historian presently engaged in expanding/correcting pages of all Pakistani military units. As I have already pointed out to a couple of your colleagues, there is a large number of old images in my possession, which have no copyright issues. Many of these are the property of military units, who are keen to see their unit histories on Wikipedia. Thank you. Beloochee (talk) 17:57, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

I have already mentioned the period (1903-22). As for {{PD-India}}, would that be appropriate since it is a Pakistani unit since 1947? Beloochee (talk) 20:25, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
The image is of a badge. I suppose that would make the regiment the creator. I will add the Pakistani tag. Beloochee (talk) 23:20, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Gary Snyder image[edit]

Hi, Fey. I hope you read this. I just added an image to the Gary Snyder article as it sorely needed it. I did indeed steal myself a bit, as I've had nothing but bad experience trying to upload images to Wikiepdia before. This image was taken from a brochure issued by my local library about the Beat genereation. In order words: The image is in fair use. Where the image is taken from is CLEARLY described with the image info. Please, please, please tell me how I can explain the use of the image any further than this. I am close to giving up on Wikipedia, as it is NOT a "free" or "user managed" encyclopedia AT ALL. I hope you will take the time to help me with this, as it is not fair that a man such as Snyder does not have an image in his article.

Hello Feydey, I'm not sure how to tag this in the article so I've been looking for an admin in RC and noticed you.
