Taichung Football

Taichung, being one of the largest cities in Taiwan, has not traditionally been a city that embraces the beautiful game. Historically, Taiwanese nationals prefer sports such as Basketball, and Baseball.

However, with the large number of ex-patriates now residing in Taiwan, football has gained a foot-hold in the city of Taichung. It can be quite difficult to find a pitch or people to play with unless you know other expatriates living on the island.

With sportsfields at the Morrison Academy, indoor 'futsall' at Da Xue (being the same size as '5-a-side' courts in the UK), and pitches at 2 local universities, non-nationals and Taiwanese alike are able to partake in the sport. As noted before, football is not generally a popular sport with the Taiwanese, although it's popularity is growing. Approximately 10% of tournament players are Taiwanese, with the bulk being non-nationals.

Taichung also hosts regular football tournaments throughout the year, attracting as many as 12 Taiwan-based teams from as far as Kaoshung and Tainan in the South, to teams from Taipei in the North.
