My philosophy on Wikipedia is that the best way we can learn is from our mistakes. It is my belief that every mistake that a user makes leads to a more skilled and accomplished Wikipedian.

Do you want to learn about some of the mistakes I made, what I implemented to prevent them from happening again and what I learned from them? Check below!

What I did What was pointed out What I changed
In February 2024, while I was still learning the ropes of using PROD to nominate an article for deleting, I tagged a couple of album articles with PROD tags. Rosguill kindly let me know that there are alternatives to deletion, and that those should be considered before placing a PROD on an article. From now on, before placing a PROD tag on any article, I make sure that no ATDs are possible for

the given article. If it looks possible but the article could reasonably be deleted, I nominate the article at AfD.

In May 2024, I closed my first two AfDs as a non-admin closure. Those two AfDs had each 3 keep !votes with no other votes, and had been running for under 24 hours. Multiple editors and admins let me know (also here) that, even if it is clear that articles will not be deleted, nominations should still be kept open for discussion for seven days such that other users also have an opportunity to comment. The issue was that I did not fully understand that AfDs had to run for 7 days, or, in the case of one other close, I did not check that the deletion argument had been answered by the keep !votes. I chose to step away from closing AfDs for a while, so that I could gain more experience by participating in discussions and watching how proper closures and relistings are done. In the future, when I do go back to AfD closing, I will be much more careful by ensuring that there is a clear consensus and that the AfD has been open for the full length of time.
