There are thousands of articles detailing bus routes. One of them even made the list of the longest articles. It is already spelled out in a Wikipedia policy somewhere that train and subway routes are generally not notable, so why have buses slipped by under the radar? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clarityfiend (talk • contribs)

Train and subway routes, including street railways, generally are notable. Therefore bus routes that used to be street railways are, like Ninth and Amsterdam Avenues Line. Other bus routes may or may not be, but if any of the routes in a system have a long history, especially as a street railway, it makes sense to list them: list of bus routes in Manhattan, etc. The route designations - like M31 (New York City bus) - can redirect to the list. --NE2 03:06, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I disagree. In the case you cite, it is not the routes that are notable, but the physical installations of the railways. Likewise, many major roads are notable. I don't think the paths that buses take along roads are notable. Unless, for some reason, they have been commented on in a non-trivial fashion in reliable sources (i.e., not timetables or mere announcements of timetable changes in local newspapers). Also, bus infrastructure is often notable. For example, I think there probably should be an article on Pool Meadow, the major bus terminus in my city. There's enough to be said about it, including a plan to close it that was abandoned by the city council in face of public pressure. I don't think that article should specify that the 12 runs from there to the University of Warwick and then on to The Parade, Leamington Spa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JulesH (talk • contribs)

In the example I gave, the route the bus takes is being compared with the route the streetcar it replaced took. Not giving the former makes the article incomplete. --NE2 07:05, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I saw an AFD a few weeks ago listing two dozen bus routes in the Twin Cities area, and I suggested merging them into a single list, similar to List of Egged bus lines. I think bus route articles should be merged in this manner, unless the article claims notability beyond its existence as a transportation medium. YechielMan 04:16, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
