Stormblåst ("Stormblown" in English) is the second studio album by Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. It was released in 1996 by Cacophonous Records, and re-released in 2001 by Century Media. The album is sung entirely in the band's native language, Norwegian, and was their last album to be completely in Norwegian instead of English. In November 2005, a completely re-recorded version of this album was released.
For this album, the keyboards became the dominant instrument, a trend the band would use again in later albums.
This is also the last album where lyrics would be written by Aldrahn (of Dødheimsgard and Ved Buens Ende) until 2003's Death Cult Armageddon.
The intro to "Guds fortapelse" is from Dvořák's Symphony no. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 "From the New World".
This album is the single album that breaks Dimmu Borgir's trend to title the albums with three words.
The song "Sorgens kammer" was stolen from the Amiga game Agony (video game). The band did not know about this until 2004, when they were contacted by the game's creator about it. Keyboardist at the time Stian Aarstad neglected to tell them this, and as a result, the song was left off of their re-recording of Stormblåst.
Stormblåst MMV (sometimes referred to as Stormblåst 2005 or Stormblåst (re-recorded)) is an album by Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir, released on November 11, 2005 by Nuclear Blast. It is a re-recorded version of the band's 1996 album Stormblåst. The album was re-recorded entirely by Silenoz and Shagrath with guest appearances from Hellhammer and Mustis. The album also has two new studio tracks, "Sorgens kammer – Del II" and "Avmaktslave". The album included a bonus DVD with five live songs performed at Ozzfest 2004 and the American version included a free cloth patch.
Removal of material[edit]
The instrumental "Sorgens kammer" from the original album could not be rerecorded due to copyright issues associated with the 1992 Amiga game Agony, as then-keyboardist Stian Aarstad had passed the song off as his own. Similarly, the intro to "Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen" had been plagiarized from the song "Sacred Hour" by Magnum and was also left off the rerecording.
