Ellie Toyota (Japanese: 豊田 エリー, Hepburn: Toyota Erī, born January 14, 1989) is a Japanese actress.
Career[edit]
While in her first year of junior high school, Toyota was scouted in Shibuya and joined Stardust Promotion.[citation needed]
In 2003, under the name Erika Ward, Toyota made her musical debut as a member of Snappeas, an idol group formed as image girls for Odaiba Adventure King 2003.[1]
Toyota made her film debut in A Cheerful Gang Turns the Earth in 2006.[citation needed] She also starred in Erin's Challenge! She Can Speak Japanese as the titular Erin, a foreign exchange student.[2]
In 2007, Toyota appeared in a commercial for the Mr. Children album B-Side as well as the promotional video for the song "Hibiki" from the album.[3]
Toyota appeared in the Ad Council Japan and NHK joint campaign commercial "Panashi no Hanashi" in 2009.[4]
In 2013, Toyota was the cover model for the first issue of Hakusensha's kodomoe, released on November 7.[5] She appeared in Tamagawa Ward Office of the Dead in 2014 as Nagisa Ono.[6]
Toyota made her stage debut as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, directed by Takahiro Fujita at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, in 2016.[7]
In 2019, Toyota appeared in Although Stock Is Limited, written and directed by Takuya Katō, with the Tagumi Theatre Company.[8]
In 2021, Toyota appeared in Light House by Mum and Gypsy, performed at the opening series of the Naha Cultural Arts Theatre Nahart, a newly opened theatre in Okinawa Prefecture.[9] That year, Toyota also had her first overseas performance with A la marge, written and directed by Tomohiro Maekawa, which was invited to the Festival d'Automne in Paris.[10]
On March 21, 2023, Toyota announced that she had joined a new agency, loca.[11]
Personal life and education[edit]
Toyota was born on January 14, 1989,[12] in Tokyo, Japan,[13] to an English father and Japanese mother. In 2005, Toyota transferred to Horikoshi High School. There, she met Yuya Yagira, whom she dated secretly, as male-female relationships were against school rules.[14] In 2010, they submitted their marriage registration on Toyota's 21st birthday and held the wedding ceremony at Meiji Shrine a day later on January 15.[15] On May 14, she announced that she was pregnant with her first child;[16] she gave birth to her daughter on October 13.[17]
