In this Korean name, the family name is Jeon
Jeon Wonwoo (Korean: 전원우) or also known by his stage name Wonwoo is a South Korean rapper, singer, song-writer and part of the South Korea boy group SEVENTEEN, where he represents the group's sub-unit, Hip-Hop Team. Wonwoo was born on July 17th, 1996 in Changwon, a city located in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea
Early Life and Education[edit]
In his early life, Wonwoo grew up in Changwon, a city located in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea. His name was chosen by his parents because it means to live by helping people with a rounded heart - Won means "round" and Woo means "help". His parents knew early on that he would pursue a music career, since he was always been interested in music as a young child. Growing up, he was fascinated with different musical instruments, but focused mainly on learning how to play the guitar when he was in middle school. His younger brother, Jeon Bohyuk, works as a fashion model.
During his formative years, he demonstrated a natural talent for music and performance, which left the groundwork for his decision to pursue a career in the music industry. He was given the nickname Palryong Middle School Dance Machine after a video of him dancing to Rain's "Rainism" and BEAST's "Breath" at his middle school talent competition. His strong passion for music motivated him to study at the reputed School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA), where he honed his skills and developed his artistic abilities. After graduating from the institution, Wonwoo spent 3 years and 6 month as a trainee under Pledis Entertainment, an entertainment company with a prominent name in the K-pop industry. His unwavering dedication to his passion to becoming an idol paid off when he made his debut as a member of SEVENTEEN in May 2015 under Pledis Entertainment.
Career[edit]
2011-2014: Trainee Days[edit]
Jeon Wonwoo began his music career by participating in Pledis Entertainment's open audition, which he initially entered just for the experience. However, to his surprise, he passed the audition and began a trainee period at the company in November 2011 and trained for about 3 years and 6 months under the company.
Jeon Wonwoo is one of the three members of SEVENTEEN who became a trainee through open audition, along with DK and Woozi. He initially caught Pledis Entertainment's attention by dancing to 2PM's "Heartbeat" at the open audition. He then spent 3 years and 6 months as a trainee under Pledis Entertainment before making his debut as a member of SEVENTEEN. On April 2015, he joined Pledis Entertainment's debut project, "Seventeen Project: Debut Big Plan" a reality show that was broadcasted on Mnet. It aired on Mnet from May 2 to May 26, 2015, on Saturday at 1:00 PM (KST) timeslot for 7 episodes in which eventually debuted on May 26, 2015 with 13 members. At the time of his debut, Wonwoo was the member with the 5th longest trainee period among the team members. Wonwoo's signature introduction is "17 since born" as it implies his birthday, July 17th.
2015-2018: Debut and Career Beginnings[edit]
After almost 4 years of hard work and dedication, Jeon Wonwoo was finally able to prove his abilities as a performer when he landed a spot in SEVENTEEN in May 2015 and debuted with 12 other members including S.coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Woozi, Hoshi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino

Over the next two years, Wonwoo continued to work on refining his skills and growing as a member of SEVENTEEN. This was reflected in the group's multiple successes from 2016 to 2018. One of their notable achievements was when they won their first music program win on 4th May 2016 with their single "Pretty U" on the Show Champion.[1] SEVENTEEN have also won three rookie awards in their debut year which are World Performer Award at the 2016 MAMA Awards, Best New Artist at the 2016 Golden Disc Awards, and Popular Singer Award at the 2016 Circle Chart Music Awards.[2][3][4] Since their debut, SEVENTEEN has continue to achieve success as they have won Artist of The Year - Music at the 2018 Asia Artist Awards.[5]
2019-2021: OSTs and Collaborations[edit]
Wonwoo has been quite active in terms of musical career over the past few years. He has participated in multiple OSTs and collaborations, showcasing his singing ability and versatility. One notable collaboration in his early years was the "Sweetest Thing" (Chocolate OST part 1) in 2019. The song was well-received by fans and marked his first foray into the OST world. It featured not only his sweet vocals, but also several fellow SEVENTEEN members including Joshua, DK, Seungkwan and Dino. Their dynamic performance and the beautiful lyrics of the song made it a fan favourite. The next year, Wonwoo together with Mingyu worked with famous South Korean R&B singer Lee Hi on the single "Bittersweet" where their unique vocal colour and range were on full display. Wonwoo's voice added a new dimension to the track. resulting in a captivating and romantic duet that made waves in the K-pop industry. These collaborations in the early years set him up for success and helped him establish himself as an all-round talented rapper, singer-songwriter with a wide range of vocal styles.
2021-Present[edit]
After almost 7 years in the industry, Jeon Wonwoo and the other members of SEVENTEEN decided to renew their contract with Pledis Entertainment in July 2021. This action signaling their commitment and passion to continue their work with the company. Since then, Wonwoo has been actively participating in various activities including appearances on variety shows such as "Going Seventeen" and "Nana Tour with Seventeen" where he has displayed his vibrant personality and entertainment skills. He also has continued to impress fans with his musical contributions, participating in multiple comebacks with SEVENTEEN.
In the spring of 2022, the group released "Hot", a powerful track with intense choreography. The music video for the song has received over 160 million views on YouTube and fans consider it as one of SEVENTEEN's best releases to date. Shortly after the release of "Hot", the group surprised fans by releasing "Super" in April 2023.[6] The song is an upbeat and energetic dance track that showcases the members' talents and individuality. In addition to their recent successes, the group has also won several major awards for their album "FML", including Album of The Year (Album Daesang) at the 2023 MAMA Awards in November 2023 and Album of the Year (Album Daesang) at the 38th Golden Disc Awards in January 2024.[7][8]
