Introduction[edit]

Aneesh Pradhan, a prominent tabla player in India, is a student of the renowned tabla maestro Nikhil Ghosh.[1]. Under Ghosh's guidance, Pradhan has inherited a diverse and extensive collection of traditional tabla solo compositions from gharanas such as Delhi, Ajrada, Lucknow, Farrukhabad, and Punjab.

Education and Career[edit]

His debut solo tabla album, "Tabla: the Solo Tradition,"[2] was recorded live in 1997 and released in 2004. It was followed in 2006 with a studio recording titled "Tabla Solo: A Continuing Tradition."[3]

Award and Honors[edit]

  • Aditya Birla Kala Kiran Award (2000), the Natyadarpan Award for ‘Best Background Score’ (1998) for music direction to the Marathi play ‘Tumbara’ directed by Sunil Shanbag.
  • The Vasantotsav Award (2012) instituted in memory of the eminent vocalist Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande[4]
  • The Saath Sangat Kalakar Award (2013) instituted in memory of G.L.Samant by the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune.
  • At Monash University's Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Aneesh Pradhan was awarded the Indian Council for Cultural Relations Chair in Indian Studies in 2016.
