Ryan Watts (politician)[edit]

Created by Hameltion (talk). Self-nominated at 03:07, 10 May 2018 (UTC).

  • Date and length fine. I would go for ALT1 as I think we can reasonably imply he's American otherwise how could he run for Congress? Maybe further clarify the hook by stating which Congressional election it is and what year. QPQ done, no close paraphrasing @Hameltion:. Good to go. The C of E God Save the Queen! • Good idea. Made the edits – let me know if anything could still use changing. Hameltion (talk, contribs) 11:57, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
  • The source only says he's the youngest candidate "as of this writing" (February). If he isn't definitely the youngest, is this a worthwhile hook? 28 doesn't seem to be especially young to me anyway. Gatoclass (talk) 11:49, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I have updated it with a citation from May 9 (after the primary). The Constitutional minimum age for Representatives is 25; Watts is the youngest person currently running. He is not, however, the youngest historically. Hameltion (talk, contribs) 12:17, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
"Youngest person currently running" is not much of a hook, he might be the tenth youngest in a month. Gatoclass (talk) 11:14, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
How about:
Hope one of these works (I prefer ALT6). Hameltion (talk, contribs) 13:24, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
  • @Hameltion: Personally I don't find any of the proposed hooks that interesting: it's not actually uncommon for gun owners to support gun control, inside and outside the US. Considering ALT6 is too similar to ALT0 which is already considered problematic, it shouldn't be a go too. Of the proposed hooks, perhaps ALT4 is the most interesting, but DYK is supposed to state facts and not be a place to post political platforms. I think the best option here would be to write a hook based on this sentence: " Watts, whose parents were split on political ideology, suggests that the Democrats' failure in branding has led to him defining himself without the party label." Okay. So:
Some are similar, or nearing the character cap. Hameltion (talk, contribs) 01:50, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Of the new hooks, I think the final hook could be narrowed down to being among ALT7, ALT8, ALT10, and ALT11 (with a personal preference for ALT7 and ALT10). I'll leave the final decision to The C of E. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:56, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
I'm fine with ALT10 but ALT6 is still good and the rest of my review stands with that one. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 06:46, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but all the images in the article are incorrectly licensed. A picture of a person cannot be the person's own work. I have nominated each image for deletion at Commons; hopefully the candidate will re-attribute these images. Yoninah (talk) 23:27, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
  • It might be best to simply suppress the image display until the image-license issues are resolved – and I suppose as a sort of disclosure, it was someone I know who urged Watts's campaign to make photographs of him available for WP. Hameltion (talk, contribs) 23:58, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Restoring tick per The C of E's review. Yoninah (talk) 23:45, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Look, I know this has been going on too long, but the current hook (ALT9) is basically a campaign statement from a candidate standing for election. I don't believe this was the intention, but we're basically promoting his views by featuring this. ALT7 is better, and I'm sure we could think of others. Vanamonde (talk) 05:04, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
