MLS Cup 2017[edit]

  • Reviewed: Aha (wasp)
  • Comment: Hold for December 9, which will coincide with the match (to be played at 21:00 UTC)

Converted from a redirect by SounderBruce (talk). Self-nominated at 19:49, 1 December 2017 (UTC).

  • Created from redirect and nominated for DYK two days later, and is about 5kB, satisfying length and date criteria. QPQ completed. The article is NPOV, with no close paraphrasing or copyvio. The sentence fragment "...in order to bolster the team's depth and manage its wage burden" isn't supported by the citation. Although not necessary for DYK, please consider replacing the terms "homegrown player" and "academy product", which are more likely to be found in sports journalism than an encyclopedia. I am assuming good faith on three refs (they crash my browser when I load them). The hook is of suitable length, and all the pertinent facts cited over several refs. My concern for the hook is that not everyone is familiar with MLS; the hook makes clear it is sport-related, but doesn't identify which sport, or where. Mentioning the clubs competing in the final would resolve the second part. I've included ALT1 as a potential replacement, though you're welcome to substitute "soccer" in place of "association football" if you prefer (probably better for a North American audience, and also creates a shorter hook). • @Mindmatrix: Thanks for the in-depth review. I'll break down my responses into bulleted points. SounderBruce 03:03, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
  • I replaced the roster depth fragment and added a reference to support the new text.
  • The term "homegrown player" is an official term for the program, which I have linked to. I have replaced "Academy product" with "Academy graduate".
  • I'd be happy to add archive links to references that aren't appearing for you.
  • I don't mind adding more context to the hook, and have my own ALT formatted below:
  • I managed to view the three refs by other means, and I should have been familiar with the term "homegrown player". Recent updates verified. ALT2 is good to go for December 9. Mindmatrix 15:03, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
