Lancelot Lawton

  • ... that the historian and political journalist Lancelot Lawton addressed a committee of the House of Commons in London in 1935, beginning: "The chief problem in Europe to-day is the Ukrainian problem"? Source: several

  • This is my first time to comment in DYK process not sure I am correct. DYK seems interesting one. I am commenting reader point of view / benefit. As of now article provides for limited information, does not provide for detail view, as a reader of this DYK I would prefer an external link in the EL section to full speech if available. if possible. Is also possible to have link to the article Ukrainian nationalism in the article in some way or in See also section if WP MoS allows for the same. Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 15:53, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
    I added the speech, and a link. This sort of article-related comments would better go to the article talk, because this DYK nom will be seen by only a few people. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:49, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt:
No doubt hook topic and related speech makes an interesting read, still advising minor improvement
In brief what I advice is to include word "a committee" (of House of Commons) to make the hook more factual.
Actually I thought if it is a speech given @ House of Commons should be available on some authorized platform of Govt. of UK but that does not seem to be the case. Some sources on Google books seem to be behind pay wall but one ref given in the article works and the information in the hook can be sort of confirmed subject to adding word 'committee' in the hook.
The rest it is very good effort on part of the user to give compliments for, that only brings us to such interesting read.
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Lancelot Lawton' speech no doubt introduces one to background of Ukrainian nationalism so it makes DYK interesting. Keeping aside partial apprehension about racial undertone of the discussed and linked 'subject speech' as noted in the side note below, for benefit of WP readership IMO let the DYK go ahead. Thanks Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 09:09, 22 April 2022 (UTC)
  • On side note: I have let go DYK ahead though my personal opinion while reading some part of speech content became sort of apprehensive. Though DYK discussion is not for sitting on moral judgement of racist undertone in some lines of the Lancelot Lawton speech, racist undertone is unlikely to be missed To the North and East .. inhabited by degenerate Mongol-Finnish tribes with whom the migrants of the first-mentioned stream freely inter-married. From their fusion the Russian and Great Russian stock emerged, typically Eurasian both in appearance and mentality. IMHO Whether it is racism in UK , Ukrainian, Russian or else where as and when critical source against racism would be available shall need to be included in the respective articles.Cross the fingers for sources.
