Elmer Schwartz[edit]

Created by Cbl62 (talk). Self nom at 03:19, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Created January 19 and nominated January 21, with 3351 bytes of text, satisfying the nomination criteria. With the exception of the hook material, all text is sourced. The fact that the game occurred and contested by those teams is not in question. The fact that Schwartz "led" the team to the Rose Bowl needs a citation though. • The article identifies him as the captain of the 1930 team. Isn't that enough to show he led the team? The captaincy is suppored by the source at n. 4. Cbl62 (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
My issue was related to the ambiguous definition of 'led'. Moreover, being a team captain is often simply symbolic. I suppose this use is OK, though I don't favour it. Hook still needs citation, per DYK rules point 3b. That is, attach a citation to the statement beginning "During the 1930 season..." Mindmatrix 17:39, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Sorry about that. I've attached a status icon to my previous message for clarity. Mindmatrix 21:06, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
alt 1 ... that fullback "Elmer the Great" Schwartz was captain of the 1930 Washington State Cougars football team to the 1931 Rose Bowl against Alabama? Cbl62 (talk) 05:38, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
Citation added to hook sentence in article. I suppose the oiginal hook is OK (see my comment on 6 February). Mindmatrix 18:59, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
