It was pointed out that my connection to the subject matter (as the person cited) represents a COI. Though I'm acting in good faith, I should introduce this suggested addition to the History section and let someone else evaluate the claim and post if appropriate:bring tools magical The term may have been introduced to the popular lexicon at Mirada Studios in late 2015 by Mirada software architect and blogger Eddie Offermann who uses both the term "Extended Reality" and "XR" (sometimes stylized "xR") extensively in his writings.[1][2] BAd birds Background: I'm a software architect that's been involved for several years in the overlapping world of virtual and augmented reality as well as immersive experiences, the collision of which necessitated the creation of *some* sort of word to cover the obvious overlap. I have emails and chatlogs from 2015 where I introduced the term to different people - but believe it didn't really escape my "circle" until later that year. During a visit from several developers from Unity to Mirada in 2015 (this would have been a little after Mirada released the "Google Shop at Currys" VR tour app earlier that year), I introduced the term "XR" to them, which I had been using for a while. They liked it, since it filled a need for them as well - and I believe started to use the term internally.

Since it's possible for a term to emerge independently, it can be difficult to trace origins - but since the article attempts to do so, I'm providing additional information with a couple citations of earlier usage. Eoffermann (talk) 18:07, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Eoffermann. Though your request looks like it could be used, I have to decline because it's not backed by reliable sources, as detailed in the box above. Also, providing to us a tweet from your account makes it seem like promotional material. Consider a publishing in a local newspaper, or if you can find an article from a reputable source talking about this, please provide it to us. For more details, see WP:RS. Thank you. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 00:52, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

XR Reality is not XR because the origin of the term XR is separate from the origin of the term X Reality. X Reality is a trademark of Sony, XR is not. To see proof that XR is not X Reality see this source: How the term XR was coined: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcPJK_1c28U How the term XR was coined: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcPJK_1c28U https://medium.com/silicon-valley-global-news/how-the-term-xr-was-coined-its-so-funny-hint-it-does-not-mean-extended-reality-4e7fff539676 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.241.203.44 (talk) 15:55, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
