Virtual channel vs physical channel[edit]

I've corrected some mistakes about channel numbers. WPXD was never on digital channel 31, its been on 33 since the switch. 31 is just its virtual channel and old analog number. For more info see WPXD in the FCC TV station database. TomCat4680 (talk) 04:30, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to switch the current channel number back to 31. If 33 was used it was at 48kw. Just rechecked and 31 is physical and virtual channel number.--Suzdrewz (talk) 00:46, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Something is missing or in error in the FCC database at the moment. 31 at 184kw recently had a license to cover. Perhaps the change to 50 has something to do with it. Due to the Minor change application they filed to the 31 permit.--Suzdrewz (talk) 00:55, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Where does it say that at the above link? As far as I can tell, they were rejected from using 19, so they're currently using 33, and 50 is their future channel after they complete their new transmitter. 31 is ONLY their virtual channel. TomCat4680 (talk) 04:16, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since your claim of 31 being the physical channel is unverifiable, I'm leaving the article as is. TomCat4680 (talk) 19:15, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To Ringtailed Fox, you can watch WPXD without it interfering with W33BY because you're getting its translator station W48AV which is simulcast on 31.1. Its physical channel is 48 and virtual channel is 31. Its all explained in the article. TomCat4680 (talk) 22:19, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Physical Channel is currently 31 see Fcc reference 1 http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-09-1510A1.pdf on the main page. In the text of the Channel change request the Channel 31 permit is modified to 50 however the station remains on 31 at this time. I only receive 31 physical and virtual in Livonia 48. The previous application was deleted because of the construction permit modification moving from 31 at its current site to 50 in southfield. That is the verification for the current channel location and page should revert to the previous version.--Suzdrewz (talk) 14:51, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I fixed the wrong info. I think its all correct now. TomCat4680 (talk) 20:02, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that WPXD shows a channel 50 parameter in the FCC database does not (necessarily) mean that the station is already transmitting on physical channel 50. A construction permit (CP) states that have FCC approval to (eventually) make changes in a broadcast station (such as changing to channel 50 and/or moving the transmitter site to Southfield). A station may begin using the facilities described in their construction permit if and when they have built the station to the new parameters before the CP expires. After they have proven they are operating to the specifications in their CP, they can apply for a "license to cover". After the license to cover is approved, the new facility will appear in the FCC database as a license (LIC).

As of 0030 EDT, April 4, 2012, WPXD is either not transmitting a channel 50 signal from Southfield, or is transmitting with (far) less power than the channel 50 transmissions observed on and shortly after January 31. The channel 50 transmissions - and the cessation of same soon afterwards, were not only observed by myself, but widely reported by other viewers on internet forums. 313 TUxedo (talk) 05:06, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As far as the physical/virtual channel situation, I have seen it best that in most television station articles, both should be included. Unfortunately on some articles in which I have edited the leads to include both channel allocations, users have opted to just include the virtual channel. The reasoning for including both is the fact that most television stations operate on two different channels: the physical digital channel and the virtual channel that is used in most cases to identify the channel as its analog-era allocation. In essence, the virtual channel should be mentioned first then the physical digital channel. TVtonightOKC (talk) 17:09, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Background music[edit]

the back ground music is too loud on shows like FBI,Chicago Fire, SVU. Its hard to hear the talking. 2600:1702:3360:D4E0:BD80:BDAD:842B:4AB2 (talk) 03:11, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
