Endowment

This number was in the infobox and was recently changed. In an effort to see whether the new or old number was right, I found that this information is hard to find online. The UGA site doesn't have it, not even at the University Fact Book (there is a number there for revenue from endowment, but it's less than a million and clearly not what this is about). In 1999, the President of UGA reported it as $249M [1], while some 3-5 year old news articles put the number at $400M, and US News (as of 2006) has it at $39M -- a tenfold error on somebody's part.

As these numbers are (clearly) all over the place, and it's an optional category/free label anyway, I have removed it from the box for now, pending someone coming up with a verifiable source, per WP guidelines. Comments are welcome. --SuperNova |T|C| 06:40, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

$474,596,000, from Georgia Student Finance Commission -Paul Ruddle
According to the June edition of the Georgia Magazine, it's "$475.6 million." [2] As the Georgia Magazine is published by UGA itself, I've re-added it to the box. --Archangel127 20:23, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
That sounds like a reasonable number and from reliable-enough sources. Thanks for the update, you two. --SuperNova |T|C| 05:13, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

The amounts listed above are more or less correct. Many public university's route donations to private non-profit organizations partnered with the university, which provide greater flexibility in how donations can be invested. UGA has an endowment of $47.3 million, according to the cited reference in the article. The UGA Foundation has an endowment of $456 million. The Arch Foundation, which is similar to The UGA Foundation, has an endowment of $69.1 million. [1] I updated the current amount to reflect these three endowments added together.
However, the issue is much more complicated. There are three other foundations associated with the University of Georgia that had assets available in 2009, which may or may not be apart of a formal endowment fund. The UGA Research Foundation had $48.8 million in available assets in 2009. [2] The UGA Real Estate Foundation had $21.6 million available. [3] The UGA Athletic Association had $56.8 million available. Additionally, the Athletic Association planned to set up two endowments. The first for $10 million to fund student Athlete scholarships and the second for $50 million to fund Athletic Associations operations and capital investments. [4]
I know UGA allows endowment donations for separate schools and colleges to be made to the Arch Foundation. However, I do not know if there are any more endowments investments associated with any of the schools, college, or academic departments. The University also owns 39,000 acres. Some land are for satellite campuses and some for research stations, but some are for other purposes and donated land. There are also 7,900 acres owned by related foundations. [5] This all leads me to the following questions....

  1. Are any of the assets from the UGA Research Foundation, The UGA Athletic Association, or The UGA Real Estate Foundation considered to be a saved endowment?
  2. Are there any more endowments related to the University of Georgia not mentioned here?
  3. Are any of the real estate holdings of the University or the foundations being saved as an investment where it could be considered part of an endowment?

Unlike other schools UGA does not appear to ever total up and advertise it's entire endowment... This makes me very curious. I am hoping other people out there might have some ideas. Cwkimbro (talk) 04:44, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Extra long article page?

Does anyone else find that the end of the article's Web page extends way below the External links section and category links? I admit I am using an old browser, but I am not seeing this for other Wikipedia pages. —DocWatson42 (talk) 14:41, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
