I have reasons to believe that the story section of this article is incorrect and is actually describing the plot of the 1999 animated movie version of the tale (or other adaptations). Since the character of the Monkey King originated from a Ming Dynasty novel, which would not have been known back in the Tang dynasty, when the story was originally told. Update, I could be wrong, as further investigation suggests that the story itself has been constantly evolving and there were retellings of it during the Qing dynasty, in which its story may have been changed under the influence of Journey to the West's popularity. Nevertheless, I think it would be good to clarify that there are multiple variations on the fairy tale. Alexanderhyperbeam (talk) 17:39, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
