Note that could be taken as a personal attack, considering many Wikipedians are British or of British descent. Aaрон Кинни (t) 21:04, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date errors[edit]

In the "Personal Life" section there is a sentence that states: "He was appointed president of the board of visitors to West Point twice - the first time by General Andrew Jackson in 1835 and the second time by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1886."

Hayes wasn't President in 1886. His term in office ended in 1881. Also, Patterson died in 1881. TGC55 (talk) 21:29, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The reference states 1885 but I agree that it seems unlikely that an ex-President appointed a dead man. I'll change to "second time by Rutherford B. Hayes". Good catch! Dwkaminski (talk) 16:04, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
