Matsuko is a cross-dressing male homosexual who identifies as male, not as a transgender woman. The proper pronouns are male pronouns, and edited major media articles about him in English use "he/him/his," as in this Washington Post piece:
I recognize the Washington Post article, but I find the male pronouns weird here. "Matsuko" the TV personality identifies as a woman: she dresses and talks as a woman, and has a woman's name. Matsuko is not the legal name of the man who assumes this persona, but he is essentially not a public figure outside of the Matsuko persona. I propose using female pronouns to refer to Matsuko while noting in the lead that the persona is assumed by a gay man, as we currently do later in the article. The Nina West article states that it is the stage name of Andrew Robert Levitt, so shouldn't this article similarly say Matsuko Deluxe is the stage name of Takahiro Matsui? I think that would resolve the problem. Westwind273 (talk) 02:30, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pronouns restored to the male. Matsuko refers to himself with the male pronoun "ore" as recorded in a TV interview in 2021. https://sirabee.com/2021/05/02/20162568771/ An arbitrary change based on an editor's personal feeling seems inappropriate given the article subject's known usage.
