MACIF insurance company as primary topic[edit]

Hi @PamD

Thanks for cleaning up this disambiguation page.

I have no issue removing the details about the insurance company acronym.

However, I'm not sure that the Macif (trimaran) should be moved out of the list of the various boats that the company sponsored. By having all 4 boats as bullet in the list in chronological order, it makes it easy to find which boat one is looking for.

To make things cleaner, I'm actually thinking of moving Macif to Macif (trimaran).

Looking for your input as you have more experience with Wikipedia than me.

The question is whether the trimaran is, or is not, the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the word "Macif". If it is, then the dab page is correctly formatted. If it is not, then the move you suggest makes sense, and Macif needs to be a disambiguation page, or perhaps a redirect to the joint disambiguation page at MACIF (disambiguation) - though as the boats seem to be Macif rather than MACIF, the disambiguation page is probably better at Macif. The boats are called MACIF because they are sponsored by the insurance company called MACIF.

Based on long-term significance (WP:PT2), I think MACIF, the company, should be the primary topic, given that boats are significant only for the few years when they race.

I also compared usage (WP:PT1) of MACIF vs. Macif (https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&start=2017-08&end=2023-07&pages=MACIF%7CMacif) and the company tends to be more used, except when there is a big sailing race.

My conclusion is that I'll enrich the company MACIF entry to include a 'sailboat sponsorship' section and then make it the primary topic, with a hatnote redirecting to the disambiguation page. simon (talk) 11:42, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
