Category Ghanaian Film Directors[edit]

I believe he should be included in category Ghanaian film director because of the following reasons:

  • He is based in Ghana, he has naturalized over there (where you are known to be based and attained notability is even more important than your place of birth on Wikipedia).
  • Apart from Iyore (which is yet to be released), all his other major films (films that made him notable) are Ghanaian films.
  • You will never see him being nominated in a Nollywood only film award (Because he is not seen as part of Nollywood) but he is always being nominated in Ghana Movie Awards.
  • He loves to be associated with Ghana Film Industry more than Nollywood.
  • Everyone sees him as Ghanaian
  • He is a major member of Director's Guild of Ghana

I am not saying that the Nigerian Director category should be removed but I believe Ghana Director category needs to be added. If you still disagree, I will need a third and forth opinion before i can let this go.

  • The likes of Lupita (obviously Kenyan) is still categorized as an american and mexican actress on Wikipedia
  • Gbenga Akinnagbe is categoried as both an american actor and a yoruba actor
  • Agent Smith is categorized as both a Nigerian actor and a british actor
  • Chiwetel Ejiofor is still part of Igbo people

I see no reason why this one should not be in both categories since one nationality made him notable for Wikipedia.

  • You forgot to sign your comment. Now this is my case:
  1. Can you provide any source that he is a citizen of Ghana (whether by naturalization or other means)? Because his biography I read sometime ago clearly says he was born and he grew up in Nigeria, before he moved to Ghana.
  2. Actually, if we are to go into the depth of film business and it's complexities, most films (English categories) that are referred to as "Ghanaian films" are infact merely Nigerian films shot in Ghana (But that is irrelevant here, so no need to explain that). So to that point, even if all the films he has directed are "Ghanaian films", it doesn't affect who he is. Neill Blomkamp has South African citizenship, but he has been directing Hollywood films since his career. scrow to the category, you won't see anything American there (despite the fact that he is infact not an African descent). Same applies to several other Nationals in Hollywood. Chiwetel Ejiofor has a british citizenship, but has mostly acted in American films......scrow to the category, you won't see any traces of "American actors" there. That's how it is! Your career can take you to work anywhere in the world, but the passport you hold is still your Identity! Adding "Ghanaian film directors" will definitely mislead/confuse the readers. There's always a way you can get your point across in the article on the kinda works he does and all, but categorization is standard....and there's no compromise about that. Van Vicker has been in Nollywood and has been based in Nigeria for God knows how long, but that will never change who is - A Ghanaian!

  4. What people see him as is the most irrelevant thing to talk about in this context. Wiki is not a rumour site, it presents facts - most especially on BLP articles.
  5. My second point answers your sixth point.
  6. And why is Lupita classified as both Kenyan and Mexican (She is NOT categorized as an "American film actress"! - check her page)? Because she has a dual citizenship. It explains the same reason Chiwetel Ejiofor is not British Nigerian, because he DOESN'T hold a dual citizenship.
  7. Ethnicity is an extremely different case to Nationality and shouldn't even come up here.
The only thing that can make you have a point in this context is if you can give a reliable source to prove that Frank Rajah holds a Ghanaian passport! Then we change it! I'm not against you or anything, I just want to uphold the appropriate way of doing things.....that's all. We have all seen what misleading contributions on Wiki has done to information on Nollywood available on the internet. I can imagine how dangerous these things can get! Judging from the fact that most Nigerians believe Wiki to be the most "accurate thing since the advent of calculator".--Jamie Tubers (talk) 02:11, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
