Birth place[edit]

The infobox says that Mau's birth place is Sudbury, while the text of the article states it is Pembroke. This discrepancy needs to be resolved. 15:49, 20 January 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dan scott (talkcontribs)

Untitled[edit]

It's interesting how folks keep editing out the fact that Massive Change, which is about socially progressive design, was funded by Altria aka Phillip Morris, a company that profits off death. badfeng 13:35, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the sentence connecting Altria to the Republican Party. It's not particularly relevant to the controversy at hand, and seems to be non-NPOV.

6. Introduction: The introductory paragraph reads a little confusing. We suggest reworking it, so that the general information comes first, followed by paragraphs that highlight his major accomplishments. Additionally, this edit adds a sentence about his work with Freeman, which began in 2015.
Before: Bruce Mau (born October 25, 1959) is a Canadian designer. From 1985-2010, Mau was the creative director of Bruce Mau Design (BMD), and the founder of the Institute without Boundaries. In 2010 Mau went on to establish The Massive Change Network in Chicago. He started as a graphic designer but later focused on architecture, art, museums, film, eco-environmental design, and conceptual philosophy.
After: Bruce Mau (born October 25, 1959) is a Canadian designer. He started as a graphic designer but later focused on architecture, art, museums, film, eco-environmental design, and conceptual philosophy.

In 2015, Freeman, a global provider of brand experiences, appointed him Chief Design Officer. Mau works with Freeman to drive innovation in the events industry.

7. Life and career: The paragraph about his work with Freeman does not expand upon what he does for the company.
Before: As of November 19, 2015, Bruce Mau is the Chief Design Officer for Freeman, the world's largest brand experience company and service contractor to the events industry specializing in face-to-face marketing.

8. Life and career: The section does not include anything about how Bruce was recognized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the Design Excellence Award.
Between the paragraph about Freeman and the paragraph about the 2016 Cooper Hewitt Award, add the following sentence as it's own paragraph: In 2015, Bruce Mau was recognized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the Design Excellence Award which identifies a visionary architect or designer of things.

9. Life and career: The date Massive Change Network was founded is incorrect. It was founded in 2010, not 2009.

Assessment of suggestions
Approved without changes: 1, 4, 6, 9 – Thanks for providing the in-line citations, be sure to include them in your edit.
Needs modifications/discussion: 2,3 – my concern is that the infobox is supposed to be a concise summary of the individual, not a exhaustive list of all the awards Mau has received. 7 – the existing sentence was too promotional and I cut it down. "Driving innovation" is a very vague description. Can you go into specific detail about Mau's role at Freeman? It sounds like one of his main duties is crafting long-term plans for each design project. 8 – I substituted this sentence: "At the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Mau exhibited his designs for books, graphics, and social projects. He received the Museum's Design Excellence Award in 2015." There are too many one sentence paragraphs in this article, and ones that share similar ideas should be combined.
Declined: 5, 10, 11. As it stands, the article doesn't need more listings of projects Mau worked on or places he lectured. What it really needs is a solid section explaining his style, his principles, what sets his work apart from other designers. The article needs paragraphs that synthesize what elements are common to his work. For example, in this article from The Globe and the Mail, Mau believes in incorporating nature into urban landscapes. In this Q&A by Maclean, Mau talks about using design to promote sustainability and environmentalism, by making the ecologically-friendly choice visually and logistically attractive. Research details about the aesthetics and purpose of his design. Then, you can use his projects as examples, incorporated into this framework to illustrate his work. The more I'm reading about Bruce Mau, the more fascinated I am with this designer's vision. I salute you for your chance to work with this article. You have the opportunity to transform this article from the typical PR-generated listing of accomplishments and awards into a biography where every casual reader, not just those in the industry, can understand Mau's work. That's my suggestion for the direction you should take this article, and I hope it helps. Altamel (talk) 22:21, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Altamel - Thank you so much for your help with this. I went ahead and made changes 4, 6 and 9, which you had approved above. I'm not sure how to address Edit #1, because it deals with formatting the template for the information box and this isn't something I've had experience with. A quick question - if I have an updated image of Mau, what's the best way to go about having it updated on his page? I'm reviewing the rest of your comments and edits to help improve this page. I'll update here when I have additional information and edits ready to go. Thanks again for your help! JessicaWinski (talk) 17:42, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
