Wendel Luís Bezerra da Silva (born June 18, 1974) is a Brazilian voice actor, voice-over director and YouTuber, best known for voicing, among others, SpongeBob SquarePants and Goku in their respective Brazilian dubs.[1] He was also one of the founders of dubbing studio Unidub.

Biography[edit]

Bezerra was born in São Paulo on June 18, 1974, beginning his career as a child actor in theater plays and telenovelas in the early to mid-1980s;[2] soon after his first works as voice actor followed, including Jamie Lawson (Jerry Supiran) in Small Wonder and secondary characters in MegaBeast Investigator Juspion.[3] Subsequently, he became the official voice actor of animated characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Goku of the Dragon Ball franchise, Steve Smith from American Dad! (seasons 1–9), Sanji from One Piece, Gideon Gleeful from Gravity Falls and Jackie Chan's fictionalized counterpart from Jackie Chan Adventures,[4] and real-life personalities such as Robert Pattinson (as Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga and Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Batman), Leonardo DiCaprio, Buddy Valastro and Ian Somerhalder (as Boone Carlyle in Lost).[5] For his work as SpongeBob, Bezerra won a Prêmio Yamato (nicknamed the "Oscars of voice acting") in the "Best Protagonist Voice Acting" category in 2009.[6] In 2012, he was one of several voice actors invited by Khan Academy to dub several lessons in-character as SpongeBob and Goku.[7]

In 2011, alongside his brother Ulisses Bezerra, he founded the dubbing studio Unidub,[8] being promoted to CEO in 2018.[9] The following year, he opened his YouTube channel, where he posts vlogs and curiosities about voice acting.

In 2020 he participated in Netflix's series Mystery Lab, created by Felipe Castanhari.

In 2023 he was the Brazilian Portuguese voice of Reggie (Will Ferrell) in the comedy film Strays.[10]

He is slated to voice a character in the upcoming video game Enigma do Medo, developed by YouTuber Cellbit.[11]

Personal life[edit]

Two of Bezerra's siblings, Úrsula and Ulisses, are also voice actors; Úrsula is best known for being the Brazilian Portuguese voice of Naruto Uzumaki and Child Goku in Dragon Ball.[12] He married Aline Lacerda, having with her three children.
