Monique Hervo (1929 – 20 March 2023) was a French writer and activist.[1][2]
She lived from 1959 to 1971 with Algerian immigrant workers and their families in the Folie shantytown in Nanterre, and demonstrated alongside them on 17 October 1961. She participated in the founding of the Immigrant Information and Support Group ( GISTI) and has been involved for several years at Cimade on the issue of poor housing and the rights of foreigners. She later bears witness to the unsanitary living conditions imposed on immigrant populations and the brutality of police repression in the context of the Algerian war in France. His photographs, notes and recordings consistently feed the history and memory of the slums and the struggle for Algerian independence in France.
