Michael Devin (born July 27, 1974) is an American bassist, vocalist and songwriter. He is best known for his work with Whitesnake, as the legendary band's longest standing bass player from 2010[1]-2021.[2] He has also played with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening,[3] The Guess Who[4], Steven Adler and Lynch Mob (band).[5] He is the bassist and singer in Steamroller alongside Doug Aldrich and Brian Tichy.[6] He also creates music with his own project under the moniker From the Earth.[7] He is currently a member of the Australian-American rock supergroup The Dead Daisies.[8]

Background[edit]

Devin was born and brought up in Leominster, Massachusetts, a woodlands suburb of Worcester, Massachusetts.[9] His mother is of Italian descent and his father is Irish and he was raised Catholic. He attended a Catholic primary school. It was with this backdrop that he first started playing bass at the age of 12 and was playing in local bands like Spaceship Earth by the age of 15.[10] He was influenced by hearing Classic rock bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath on the radio and when his two older sisters cranked Hard rock and Hair metal bands.[11] After high school, he moved to Boston and graduated with a masters degree from Emerson College.[12]

Devin relocated to Los Angeles in 2001 with the intention of working in studios. He was working as an assistant in various studios like Cherokee Sound Recorders and also had a desk job at Line 6 (company) until he started jamming with drummer Brian Tichy at The Cat Club and was asked to join his band BALL in 2002.[13] From there, Devin began consistently auditioning and playing shows around Los Angeles and eventually landed his first touring gig with Kenny Wayne Shepherd.[14] His next touring gig was with George Lynch (musician) in his band Lynch Mob (band) in 2009. He later joined Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening in 2010. It was during that time that he was suggested to David Coverdale when Whitesnake was looking for a new bass player. He joined the band in 2010 and participated in numerous world tours over the years with Whitesnake and appears on multiple albums where he's played bass, harmonica and provided backing vocals. He left the band in 2021. He then played in The Guess Who until 2023.

He's also played with Sass Jordan in the band S.U.N.[15] Devin has participated in multiple "Bonzo Bash" John Bonham tribute shows as the primary bass player.[16] He has been the singer and bassist in the Randy Rhoads Remembered all-star tribute shows.[17] He has participated in many Ronnie Montrose Remembered tribute shows.[18] He is a regular at the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout charity shows.[19] He's also toured as bassist with Cherie Currie of The Runaways alongside Brie Howard-Darling of Fanny (band).[20]

Devin has also created a highly rated podcast about his love for Rock music called Rock n' Roll Bible with Michael Devin available on streaming sources.[21]

In 2021 he appeared on the soundtrack for a documentary about Jack Daniel's called 'Chasing Whiskey', produced by Shooter Jennings.[22]

Devin appeared in the 2022 film Motorvation.[23]

Since 2023, he's been touring and recording with The Dead Daisies.[24]

Personal Life[edit]

Devin was previously married to a hairdresser named Liz. Then, Devin had a six-year relationship and was engaged in 2015 to actress Drea de Matteo.[25] Since 2022, he has been married to Canadian singer Priya Panda from the band Diemonds.
