Yusif Meizongo Jnr. (also known as Maison Yusif), is a Ghanaian perfumer, entrepreneur and CEO of What You Want Co (now Maison Yusif).[1][2][3][4] He is recognized as Ghana's first perfumer and his perfume brand as the first niche perfume house in Ghana.[5]

Early life and education[edit]

Meizongo was born on 10 June 1997 and hails from Newtown, a suburb of Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.[4] He attended the Islamic University in Ghana where he had his Bachelor's degree in Public relations.[6][7]

Career[edit]

Meizongo began his career as a footballer in 2011 playing for Unistar Academy in Côte d'Ivoire. In 2017, he established the perfume brand ‘WHAT YOU WANT Co’ perfumes after quitting the football team[4] and later went to institutions in Germany, Turkey, France, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia and Dubai where he took courses in perfumery.[5][6]

Meizongo is the last of nine siblings.[7]

Awards and nomination[edit]

In 2020, Meizongo was nominated for the 'Promising Entrepreneur of the Year' by the Ghana Business Awards Network.[8]

In 2021, his company was awarded the 'Emerging Brand of the Year' by the Global Business Summit in Accra. In 2021, he also received a Baron in the Cosmetic (Perfumery) Industry Award. In 2021, he was named as the 'Most Respected CEO in the Manufacturing (Perfumery) Industry' in Dubai.[9]

In 2022, he also received the 'Product of the Year Award'.[9][10]

In 2023, his brand 'The Vatican' was named the 'Niche Perfume of the year' at the Perfumista Awards held in France.[11] He also won the Pulse Awards Business Influencer Award in 2023 held in Accra.[12][13][14] In 2023, his brand also won the Best Business in Fragrance award at the 2nd edition of the Ghana Trade and Commerce awards.[15][16]

Philanthropy[edit]

Meizongo has a non-profit organization called 'Home of Humanity Foundation' which supports the education of children in the community.[17][18]
