  • Comment: Most of the sources are reliable (What Now Orlando for an example) and /or not independent or routine coverage and most are local. Nothing suggests this can meet the notability guidelines. S0091 (talk) 20:07, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: Sources are largely the restaurant's own press releases. Other references contain merely incidental mentions insufficient to pass WP:SIGCOV. Chetsford (talk) 07:33, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: I suggest removing phrases such as "major success", "huge success" especially when the only source the is the subject's own website. Greenman (talk) 05:47, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

La Granja Restaurant is a Latin American cuisine, specifically Peruvian cuisine, fast casual restaurant chain located in Florida, with over 50 locations spread across the state.[1] The restaurant first opened in Aruba in 1993, and after becoming successful on the island, moved to South Florida in 1995 and has since expanded throughout the state.[2] Currently, the restaurant is family-owned.[3]

History[edit]

The chain opened their first restaurant in the island of Aruba in 1993, offering rotisserie chicken and Peruvian food.[2] The restaurant soon became a success on the island.

In 1995, Gustavo Bartra, the original founder of the restaurant, along with his son, opened the first La Granja restaurant in United States in Margate, Florida.[4] They continued to be a success in Florida and later in 2003, they were recognized by the Restaurant Review Magazine and received the "Best Peruvian Restaurant of the Year" award.[5][6] They registered as a Florida profit corporation in late 2003.[7] By 2004, they had opened 10 locations in South Florida.[8] They also received in 2004 the "Best Peruvian Family Style Restaurant" award and, in 2007, the "Best Peruvian Cuisine in Fort Lauderdale" award.[1]

The company has opened several more locations throughout Florida since, such as in Sanford and Orlando, both corporate-owned and franchises.[9][10]

Philanthropic contributions[edit]

La Granja contributes to programs like ASPIRA, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving Latino youth educational opportunities.[11] On Veteran's Day, La Granja also honors war veterans at their restaurants.

During the 2015 KidsFit Jamathon, an event held by Digital Vibez focused on fighting childhood obesity, La Granja was one of the sponsors of the event, which helped support the event and its message and fund it.[12][13] Also since 2015, the company has been handing out the 'La Granja Road to Success' scholarships for Floridian Latinos who would want to attend the Palm Beach State College.[14][15]

Controversies[edit]

In 2013, 73 live cockroaches found in a Lake Worth location got it shut down, along with 21 other violations.[16] In 2018, one of the La Granja locations in West Palm Beach was shut down on September 10th for violations during a state inspection conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Violations included improper food storage and sewage backup.[17] In 2022 on November 8th, another location in Miami was shut down for 10 violations, including cockroach activity and due to the Food Manager not having knowledge on food-borne illnesses.[18]

Menu[edit]

La Granja serves a variety of meals, from seafood, which was implemented into the menu in 1998,[19] to meat platters. They also serve meals like fajitas, steak, and pork.[20] The restaurant offers a variety of sides, like yuca, french fries, and plantains. Fresh juices offered include passion fruit and mango.[9] They also serve a variety of desserts, including flan and tres leches.[21]
