Lígia Ferro is a Portuguese sociologist, known for her significant contributions in the field of urban sociology, as well as her involvement in teaching, research, and associative leadership.

In 2004, Lígia Ferro graduated with a degree in Sociology from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, being recognized with the University of Porto - Eng.º António de Almeida award for the best student to complete the Sociology degree that academic year. Continuing her studies, in 2011, she completed her European Doctorate at the Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon, during which she had the opportunity to work as a visitor at various internationally renowned institutions, such as the University of Rovira i Virgili, the State University of New York at Albany, the University of Paris X Nanterre, and the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, benefiting from an FCT scholarship. In 2012, Lígia Ferro began her Post-Doctorate at the Research and Studies Center of Sociology and at the Institute of Sociology of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto.

A notable milestone in Lígia Ferro's career was the conception and presentation of the Continuing Education Course "Introduction to Urban Ethnography" to the Department of Sociology in 2014, which was approved and operational from 2015 to 2017. In the same year, she joined the faculty of the Department of Sociology of FLUP, being definitively appointed in 2022.

Her dedication to teaching and research is reflected in her participation in the Scientific Committee of the Sociology Degree at FLUP from 2019 to 2023, being elected Scientific Director of the same study cycle in the last year. In addition to her academic contributions, Lígia Ferro has been actively involved in initiatives of the University of Porto's Rectorate, participating in the Inter-Peer Mentoring project of UP since 2019, an institutional program for welcoming and integrating students in higher education.

Lígia Ferro's professional trajectory is marked by her commitment to producing knowledge about the societies of the Iberian Peninsula, with special attention to the role of sociology in the analysis and transformation of groups and societies. She also has extensive international experience, especially in Iberian, Luso-Brazilian, and North American academic circles, with strong European connections.
