Please check the remaining portion of article for similar issues, not just the specifics mentioned here.WP:COPYVIO is unacceptable, but article is salvageable. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 15:12, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: Rather than listing the goals and targets wholesale (which is also a copyvio issue), describe when and why the organisation joined or left the various groups in a neural and factual manner. However, Ms Suu Kyi's government made history's worst human rights violation. statements like these can be seen as contentious and emotionally charged. Do rewrite such stuff into a neutral tone. – robertsky (talk) 16:12, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

The Kachin National Organization (Burmese: ကချင်အမျိုးသားအစည်းအရုံ; abbreviated KNO) is a Kachin political organisation in Myanmar (Burma), established on 9 January 1999. [2]

History[edit]

The Kachin National Organization [3] was founded on the 9th of January 1999. The formation resulted from an extensive discussion between the overseas Kachins and the elders from the Kachin homeland. Its main goal is establishing an independent Kachinland.

Working with the Ethnic Nationalities Council (2001-2011)[edit]

The KNO has been among the ENC's council members since its founding for the establishment of a genuine federal union.[4][5]

Working with the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) 2011-2017[edit]

The Kachin National Organisation was one of the associate members of six after the Palaung State Liberation Front, the Lahu Democratic Union, the National United Party of Arakan, the Pa-O National Liberation Organisation and the Wa National Organisation in the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC).[6]

At a conference held from 12 to 16 February 2011, CEFU declared its dissolution and the formation of the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC). The UNFC, which is comprised of 12 ethnic organisations, stated that:

"The goal of the UNFC is to establish the future Federal Union (of Burma), and the Federal Union Army is formed to protect the country's people."[7]

After the Kachin Independence Organisation decided to join the UNFC as a full member, with political consultation in 2012, the KNO and the KIO worked together for the establishment of the future Federal Union in the UNFC as a representative of Kachinland until the KIO withdrew its membership from the UNFC in 2017.

Abandoning Federal Union (2019-current)[edit]

The KNO exhausted working for a genuine federal union, as unspeakable atrocities across the Kachin State continued despite the ceasefire since 1994. Ms Aung San Suu Kyi came to power after a 2015 landslide election. However, Ms Suu Kyi represent the Myanmar Tatmadaw on the case against the Rohingya genocide in the International Court of Justice.[8]

Hence, the Kachin National Organisation's Party Congress meeting held in November 2019 concluded that there will be no just society within the union with the proper Burma and abandoned the objective of the federal union, and the members astonishingly adopted the formation of an independent Kachin country.[9]
