The Hotel Termas el Sosneado was a hotel in the Andes mountain range in the San Rafael Department, Mendoza Province, Argentina. Today, only the ruins remain.
The hotel was constructed in 1938 by a South American hotel company known as "Compañía de Hoteles Sud Sudamericanos Ltda," which was a subsidiary company of the now-defunct Buenos Aires al Pacífico S.A. railway. The hotel was inaugurated by a diverse group of attendees in December 1938 following a large advertising campaign.[1]
It was built on the bank of the Atuel River on Provincial Route 220. It's about 60km (37 miles) northwest of the town El Sosneado and is about 2,180m (7152 feet) above sea level. [2]
One of the main attractions of the hotel was an outdoor hot spring heated by sulfurous waters that descended from the Overo Volcano.[3]
Starting in 1953, the luxurious hotel and its amenities were largely abandoned, although some caretakers remained. Eventually, it became deserted.[1]
Today, it is a stopover point for excursions to the remains of the 1972 Uruguayan Air Force plane crash which is about 21km (13 miles) away.
