Frances Widdowson is a Canadian political scientist. She was an associate professor in the department of economics, justice and policy studies at Mount Royal University from 2008 to 2021. She was fired from the university in 2022 after expressing controversial opinions about the Black Lives Matter movement and residential schools.[1]

Education[edit]

Widdowson received an Honours BA and MA in political science from the University of Victoria and a PhD in political science from York University.[2]

Career[edit]

She was a policy analyst for the government of the Northwest Territories.[3]

In 2023, the University of Lethbridge canceled a guest lecture by Widdowson after complaints by students and faculty at the university.[5][6][7][8]

Currently, she is working a manuscript entitled The Woke Academy: How Advocacy Studies Murder Academic Disciplines and Effective Policy Development.[11]

Her book Disrobing the Aboriginal Industry was short-listed for the Donner Prize.[12]
